Posted in b-ball thread as well... The News Story we have all been waiting for! This is a great move for the lacrosse program and University.
It will be good to play 2014 in the ECAC, because of heightened odds on making the dance and classfully finishing out our commitment.
Then, joining the CAA in 2015 is good for the CAA and good for Fairfield Lacrosse.
But, it also sets the stage for a bigger move by Fairfield in the future (all sports)!

This LAX league is better than the MAAC but a step down from the ECAC of this year. Not getting into the new Big East league for lacrosse is a major disapppointment.

Yes, not getting an invite from the Big East is disappointing. It was a natural fit.
The Big East, however, invited Denver based on TV and money. Unfortunately, Catholic affiliation and geography no longer matters.
Overall, the CAA (UMass, Hofstra, Delaware, Drexel) is better than the Big East (Denver, Georgetown, Villanova). Fairfield has stronger lax program than most of the Big East whereas CAA is much more balanced.
I think we landed in a good spot.

Build the proposed facility, and the games become a "campus event". Don't, and it stays at 300 per game.

Dear Friends,
I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting news about our men's lacrosse program with you, prior to it being officially announced. Later this afternoon, we will accept an invitation to join the Colonial Athletic Association as an associate member for men's lacrosse. The team will begin competition in the CAA for the 2015 season. You can read our official announcement at FairfieldStags.com now.
Fairfield lacrosse has become relevant on the national stage, with victories over top-ranked opponents, and 16 weeks of national rankings over the past two seasons. For the past eight seasons, and 2014 as well, we have been proud members of the ECAC Lacrosse League, arguably the toughest conference in college lacrosse the past few seasons. However, with the changing landscape of collegiate lacrosse it was in the best interest of our program's future to secure a long-term home with like-minded lacrosse institutions.
I am confident that this move to the CAA will secure our place amongst the upper echelons of Division I lacrosse and I look forward to watching Andy Copelan continue to build this program. I look forward to a successful final campaign in the ECAC this coming spring and am excited about the future of our lacrosse program.
Thank you for your continued support of Fairfield Lacrosse.
Sincerely,
Eugene P. Doris Director of Athletics

Ctghostman - Not getting into the Big East is a disappointment, BUT if this helps us get into the CAA for all sports it is the right move for the University.
Unfortunately, the Big East is not inviting us for all sports any time soon.
*I would argue that the next 2 years become very key for our basketball program.*

Sure we wanted BE Lax..... Just like Hoops wants A10 Hoops. Both a long shot. But #2 option is CAA in both sports. With the CAA Lax invite coming first, we had to accept. But now that Gene Doris is part of the CAA, expect him to work his magic in hoops and all other sports

1 comment (posted in b-ball, too): Stag LAX Stadium - Now that we locked in a solid conference, we need to build this ASAP. It will be the best/nicest lacrosse venue in Fairfield County. It will be on campus (exactly what we have wanted for b-ball). This is OUR opportunity to continue to be in the NATIONAL conversation in lacrosse, the FASTEST growing sport in the country. I feel like we missed this same opportunity in b-ball in the 70s, let's not repeat our mistakes. I think it is time NOW to shout from the mountains that we need Alum to step-up to put this over the top! Btw, if we do just a little promoting in lacrosse with the new stadium, I guarantee we will be averaging over 1000 a game and growing from there.

I think Doris stresses the importance of going to a new league is that it has the ability to get At_Large bids. Going to a stronger Conference like the CAA will definitely do that for LAX, and would put us in better position to get At Large bids in hoops if we were invited for all sports.
This raises the Question of why wern't our Women's Lax Team invited to CAA. Looks like they have only 8 teams, which includes ODU and GMU, that could be leaving or kicked out. They also are the worst 2 LAX teams in the conference.
