Box score attendance of 3,226. The third home game of 3,000+ attendance reported this season with still 5 more home games remaining in the 2023-24 season. Fairfield is averaging 2,413 at home.
"I've been talking to our guys about fighting and grinding out games, and today was a great example of that," said Interim Head Coach Chris Casey. "We kept fighting when shots weren't falling, we kept our heads and kept grinding and grinding, and we found a way to win."
#2 Fairfield Men's Basketball (13-9)(7-4 MAAC) returns to action at Mahoney Arena on Thursday, Feb. 8 for a 7 p.m. meeting with #8 Rider. The Broncs are (8-14)(5-6 MAAC) after a 94-93 loss today at Iona. The Stags defeated Rider, 88-81, on Dec. 3 in Lawrenceville.
First game I've attended. Great 2nd half - adjustment on D made the difference the TO and steal differentials really shows it. Also we hit our shots better in the 2nd half. Finish of the first half was a good sign. There were some horrendous calls. A few charges that should have been "no call" and then a few more that should be charge. Then no calls on fouls. It was bad all around but I think we got the worst of it.
I would like someone out there to tell me where this team will be when Leach, Fields and Goodine have graduated.
In this era, you could have 3 or more new starters every year. And frankly we haven’t had a stellar past 20 seasons so turnover can’t be worse for us. That said, these are the players we’ve got and they’re really good and a joy to watch. Happy to have this team.
Seck is limited, but Brown is worthless on the floor.
I appreciate Brown. Yeah, he's limited and typically overmatched. Almost all walk-ons are. But he plays hard and has beaten out healthy scholarship players to give us something in a deperate post situation, even if limited. In an ideal world, we'd have enough healthy talent that he wouldn't be playing. That's not the case and I'm glad we have him.
The comments we might make to ourselves in the heat of the moment don’t need to be posted. Ditto, glad JB is here.

Don't want to be a jerk about it, but while I'm happy with the win, I still feel the same way out of the "heat of the moment". Danny essentially makes my point for me. If we had more "big" depth and/or we did not have injured bigs, he would not see the floor. I greatly appreciate walk-ons, their determination, hustle and commitment, and their value in the practice gym. So I too am glad Jack is part of the program. But today exemplified why any extended minutes for him are a liability. He took a couple of very ill advised distance shots in the first half (his outside shot is flat and ugly) and then actually literally twice threw balls blindly over his head at the rim when he had the ball in close in the second half, the kind of "move" that you might see in a rec league game. In crucial and typically tight MAAC contests he cannot play to the detriment of the team.
Jack is ideally a swing - not a 4/5. He’s playing out of position.
Jay brought in 3 bigs that were lottery tickets this year-Yetna and his injury status, Seck and his weight, and Smith and his youth. A guy like SHUs Sobel should have taken - he’s solid 11pts/7reb in 25 minute per game. He was somewhat proven - D3 POY 6’8, 230. Yetna and Smith were pretty late gets. Sobel was a “bird in hand” - we wouldn’t have one of the Other 3 though

JGU80, This is a board of opinions and your entitled to yours. There are some people on this board that are self proclaimed sensors. Brown is not blessed with great athletic ability but when he is on the floor he plays hard and does not take any plays off.
No one is censoring But the comment isn’t what this board is about. Sorry but don’t see the worth of digging into any kid’s play and calling it worthless.

Fair point. There is no doubt that Jack plays very hard when on the floor, and I am all too cognizant that Chris has very, very few options these days.

Oh, please forgive me, 79. I'll be sure to run any future comments past you to make sure that whatever I opine meets your standard of "what this board is about". Have a good night.
