Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse (0-2)(0-0 CAA) takes one of the shortest road trips in all of NCAA Division I lacrosse (5.5 miles) this Wednesday with a visit to Sacred Heart University (0-3)(0-0 MAAC). Opening faceoff from the other side of Fairfield is slated for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Fairfield is coming off a 19-8 loss to nationally ranked #17/19 North Carolina this past Saturday. Sacred Heart is 0-3 on the year with their three losses coming by a total of just five goals. Sacred Heart temporarily joined the MAAC in men's lacrosse in 2023 following the dissolution of NEC Men's Lacrosse due to a dip in membership, and will remain in the conference when its full MAAC membership begins next academic year. A very important game , IMO even though it has no effect on the CAA conference standings. A Very important game because it is a game FF SHOULD win! If it is a loss it will be a negative barometer on what will be FF competitiveness in the CAA this year. One could argue that FF shouldn’t best UNC or even a mid level patriot league team like Lehigh. However a win over an 0-3 SHU is a must.

1/2 way through the 2nd period and we’re getting doubled up, 10-5. My how that program has fallen. Time to clean house.

There you go. The only positive from tonight is that Fairfield alum and Sacred Heart Coach Jon Basti got his first win over his alma mater.

Bad loss for FF. First win for SHU since 2005. I think Baxter needs to be let go! Based on what I just saw, I am not sure how FF can be competitive in the CAA.

Baxter and Jay Young were marquee hires by Schlickmann and both were colossal failures. It’s time to go back to the drawing board. This won’t happen, but if the season continues the way it started, I’d cut bait before the season ends.

I’d like to believe Schlickmann has learned lessons and can be competent in making the right hire…he did so with the Women's basketball coach. I think the bigger problem is that the Lax team doesn’t have a true conference to align with. I worry we won’t attract quality coaches who will want the job. To say we were somewhat relevant to now being a bottom tier team would be an understatement. I’m not a fan of Schlickmann, but my hope is he consults with the right people and right alumni, not just the money bags at the University.

An early 5-1 deficit stood up as the difference as Fairfield University Men's Lacrosse (0-3)(0-0 CAA) was clipped by host Sacred Heart (1-3)(0-0 MAAC), 13-9, on Wednesday evening on SHU's Campus Field. Bryce Ford scored five goals to pace the Stags before 520 fans. Lacrosse alums were (maybe still are?) the most vocal and proactive of the athletic alums. Maybe I am out of touch but where are they?? They should be beating down Schlickman’s door demanding accountability. Not only has Fairfield slipped from the national spotlight but they are quickly heading toward irrelevance in the local conversation, as well.

Is sort of being in the CAA for lacrosse only doing more harm than good at this point? It is a tenuous position that may be putting doubts in the minds of potential recruits. Either way there needs to be dramatic changes to the program. Alums Rafferty and Conway must be fuming at the lack of return on their donations. I am sure Rafferty would have preferred to have his name on the Arena.

Agree FF has slipped from national spotlight when FF was a member of the Great Western Lacrosse( GWL) league to a afterthought in the CAA.

The majority of programs at FU are getting better with the exception of one, Men's Lacrosse. For some reason, not a single word was said when we lost some of our best players to the transfer portal last year. Most importantly, I don't believe we have had a single class join the team as Freshman and finish as seniors..not one under this "new" era. There are ups and downs in records..there shouldn't be ups and downs in the way these boys are groomed to men and leaders both on and off the field.

Sacred Heart ran the table in the MAAC and finished 9-0 and 11-4 overall. I am very happy for Coach Basti! He has been at the Sacred Heart helm for a long time. This is his first real taste of success and in just Sacred Heart's first year in the MAAC. Great guy and even better story for our fellow Stags alum!
