Good move by the University! Casey has EARNED the chance to once again be a head coach. Removing his interim title just prior to the opening of the portal is going to be critical to replacing Fields and Yetna as well as who else leaves.
I do not recall if I have witnessed any interim HC starting out in more difficult circumstances. To cobble together a staff in an absurdly compressed time frame, then mesh together a roster with several newcomers into a program and team that could compete at all, let alone achieve a 20 win season with a legitimate chance to go to the NCAA's, was far beyond any and all expectations. Not to mention his coaching an offensive and defensive style of ball that makes the team fun to watch and root for.
Casey did one of the best coaching jobs I've ever seen at Fairfield this season, period. Considering the situation he inherited, the team's performance has been astonishing.
The reaction of the team is the most important opinion!
Why do we love sports and more particularly the Stags? This video and the reaction of the players says it all right there. Congratulations Chris. Well deserved for sure!

And to add to the obstacles he had to overcome, don't forget the first three weeks or so when the team was minus Fields, Leach, Seck and Yetna, and then on top of that Rogan, who had proven himself as worthy right off the bat, went down with an injury himself. Indeed the best thing about the job Chris did this season was keeping everything positive when the program appeared to be in a dire spot. So yes the situation he was placed in was indeed extremely difficult as you suggest. So therefore because of the success that has followed, the reward for him as announced today is certainly well deserved.

A resume for Coach of the year if I ever heard of one and yet it went to Pecora. Makes no sense!
