Stags lose the opener 3-0. Different from the first 6 games; solid pitching (McVeigh & Helmstetter) and no errors. Stags only got 3 hits, with the GMU pitcher throwing a complete game shutout with only 1 walk and 4Ks. Stags now 0-7, resume series tomorrow.

Rough start to the season but the Stags have been competitive. I expect things to turn around in MAAC play.

Supposed to start raining any minute and not stop until noon on Saturday. Might be tough playing the game in Fairfax, VA tomorrow.

The staff simply does not know when it is time to pull their pitchers. There is a stark difference from when Jordan Tabakman(spelling?) reigned over a veteran staff to now. Doing the same thing over and over will not yield the desired changes.

The last batter was inexplicably given a 2 run single to SS while actually it was a grounder to third which was mishandled. Erbeck is your closer, no reason to take him out there.

(Unfortunately) I did watch the game. Erbeck is absolutely the guy for that situation. You don’t roll out Kell for his third inning of work, you put bridge guys/ Ostensen to get you through the 7th. Then you put Erbeck in there to finish the job 8/9. No need to let the opponent’s lineup see our closer twice and figure something out. I didn’t check if that was the case here, but there must be a problem if the staff has an 8 era and we are 0-9.

I haven't watched the games - but the results are worrying. 2 straight shutouts followed by a late-inning collapse. I know the MAAC games will be at a different level and offer plenty of opportunities for wins... but you kind of figured the Stags would have at least 3 or 4 by now.

Agree, when u go south to play games early in the season u can expect some loses. However, .500 or one game under .500 would be reasonable start to the spring season. Zero for the season so far is not acceptable, IMO.

First win incoming. Leading SJU 17-5 T8. 19-5 final in 8. Scored 6 in the 7th and 11 in the 8th. Used 8 pitchers for one inning each. After the starter gave up 4 in the 1st, the final 7 pitchers combined to allow one run on 5 hits. Most of them were our 3rd line pitchers. Hibbard with 4 more hits and 5 RBI
