Hello!?!? Big deal here! Perhaps an announcement from FVA or GD?!?! Fairfield University has announced plans to renovate Alumni Field into a large-scale stadium that the Stags men's and women's lacrosse teams will call home. Thanks to a generous leadership gift from former University Trustee, Lawrence Rafferty '64, his daughter, Kathleen Rafferty Hay '03, and his son Michael Rafferty the new venue will be called Rafferty Stadium. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPC-JQc4U9I&feature=youtu.be

Kudos to our fellow alum Larry Rafferty '64 and his family for their generous "leadership gift" but why is this information not on the Stag website (with the YouTube video), the University's website and our AR website along with "Donate Now"?
What good is seeking funding for the new Rafferty Stadium if nobody knows about it?

still curious to know what will happen to Prep football...if they're going to build this nice lacrosse specific stadium for Fairfield, and sink money into making this nationally ranked program continually competitive on the NCAA Lax landscape, there had better not be any permanent football lines laid down into the turf

A few things...
1. Football lines will be temporarily lined for Prep Football in the Fall.
2. I think a larger campaign will come. I just think it is the summer and they have also lost the head of major gifts, if I am right?
3. I really think they should try to raise $ through Prep as well. This stadium will obviously be a huge plus for Prep Football and Lacrosse, too.

Summer and administration resignations but still no excuse why the Raffertys' generosity has not been acknowledge and publicized along with the Rafferty Stadium video and a story on the University website, Stag website and AR website. The Communications, PR and SID people are all still working. If no one else in charge on campus will talk about Rafferty Stadium then maybe Bill Paxton will in the CT POST?

According to Stephanie Frose, vice president for University Advancement, “The stadium project is projected to cost between $8 [and] $9 million. We have approximately half of that committed thus far in pledges/gifts and we are continuing to fundraise for the rest.”......
With the new stadium, not much will change, but the men’s and women’s lacrosse teams for Fairfield University will permanently make that their home field. “It will primarily be home to men’s and women’s lacrosse. It will still be the inclement weather site for men’s and women’s soccer. It will be Fairfield Prep’s primary venue for football, soccer and lacrosse,” said Director of Athletics Gene Doris......

........•A new stadium for lacrosse Fairfield has one of the best men's lacrosse programs in the country. We are in the midst of plans to build a stadium to support our team's efforts in the top tier of the sport.
We are excited about our future. Together, we constitute a community that is continually renewing itself, engaging in new discoveries and pursuing the future. Your gift every year makes a difference to our students every day.
Thank you for being a part of the Fairfield University community. I'm looking forward to another great year.
Sincerely,
Jeffrey P. von Arx, S.J.

from a development professional: typically capital campaigns are meant to be in a "quiet" phase until at least 66% of the money is already raised/pledged...allows development leverage in their solicitations of larger gifts as once a project becomes public donors with an interest in the project will step up on their own with a dollar amount that is usually below what the development officer would be soliciting them for
prep should absolutely be included in this process given the prominence of their lax program which will of course utilize the stadium
soccer is meant to be played on grass and i'm glad they have no intent to move
just my 3 cents

The University's Fall 2013 issue of FAIRFIELD MAGAZINE has more information on Rafferty Stadium: Alumni Field has served the University’s needs well, but it was not designed with the current level of competition in mind.
“Right now, spectator seating and amenities are severely lacking,, and fans have to literally walk across the edge of the field,” stated Associate Vice President for Facilities David Frassinelli. “For Division I play, the current stadium is simply inadequate.” .....
Doris concurred. “I have been amazed at the lacrosse facilities built in the last five years. To remain competitive at the level of our peers, the new stadium is significant,” he said. “The Walsh Athletic Center is the hub of our athletics activity, and having a beautiful new stadium right next door will help our recruiting efforts for all sports.” The estimated cost of the stadium is approximately $9 million. With the Rafferty family gift and other pledges from alumni and parents, approximately two-thirds of that amount has now been committed with fundraising efforts continuing to raise the rest. The project is fully approved by the Town of Fairfield and the construction documents are almost complete. The University’s goals are to start construction next spring and complete Rafferty Stadium by the start of the 2015 lacrosse season.
“We’ll now be able to host conference championships and state high school championships,” Doris said. “There’s no question that Rafferty Stadium will bring Fairfield greater exposure and recognition nationally. It really is a strategic investment in our University.”....blog.fairfield.edu/magazine/?p=2580

Amen to that Sobro!

Approximately $6 million in gifts and pledges raised and another $3 million still needed but why isn't the architect's rendering of Rafferty Stadium on the Stag website and the University's website like Loyola did when fundraising and building their lacrosse stadium? Hopefully this article in FAIRFIELD MAGAZINE will be the start of the more public side of the fundraising effort to have Rafferty Stadium started next Spring and finished for the Stag Lax season in February 2015.
