A nice play in left field by Lussier to end the 8th and the Stags go on to win game 1 of the road doubleheader at Cook Field 14-6.

Stags sweep the double header.
Baker pitches an 8 inning gem with 2 hits, struck out 9 and allowed no runs.
Erbeck closes it out in the bottom of the 9th.
Now lets sweep the series tomorrow!

A long but productive afternoon of baseball at Alumni Diamond. Fortunately, the bats came alive in Game 1. Blake Helmstetter battled through five innings, surrendering five runs and 11 hits; he nearly blew a 6-0 lead. But the team picked him up, scoring eight times in the final four frames. Luke Nomura and Payten Wawruck were the offensive heroes, and Ethan Hibbard hit home-run No. 12 on the season. Player-of-the-game honors, however, go to Chris DiFiore, who threw four strong innings of relief to pick up the save.
In the second game, Bowen Baker fired a brilliant 114-pitch, two-hit, eight-inning shutout gem that stymied Iona at every turn. Zach Selinger went 3-3, and his longball in the 6th turned out to be the winning run. Only one question remained as Jack Erbeck jogged in to pitch the 9th inning: Who would show up, Good Jack or Bad Jack? We got both. He walked the first guy, gave up an infield single to the next, and a deep sacrifice fly moved the runners to second and third. A wild pitch scored a run, and the situation looked bleak -- the tying run stood at third with one out. But Erbeck seized the moment, striking out the last two batters to preserve the 2-1 victory. It would've been a mortal sin if Bowen Baker had not won this game.
Losers of seven in a row, Iona is now 4-20 overall, 0-5 in the league. A sweep is absolutely mandatory if Fairfield has its sights on a first-place finish in the MAAC. There is no room for error this season; we have to beat all the bottom feeders all the time.

Stags dominate in the final game of the series with McVeigh pitching a 2 hit shut out in a mercy ruling 7 inning game.
Bergevin with back to back 3 run homers in 1st and 2nd innings and win it 12-0.

BTW, the official name for this field is RIDICULOUS -- "Don '63 and Chris '88 Cook Field"
Just call it Cook Field or Cook Family Field. Just absurd IMO.
Alumni Diamond was so simple.
And the outfield wall not only does not have distances, the canvas is now in a shambles. WHERE IS ALAN GIBSON???

And the fact that they can't put simple (TRUE) distance markers on the wall like so many other college fields have is a mystery to me.

…and yet at the same time the school has the $28k entrance fee plus travel costs to send the mens basketball team to a meaningless year end tournament in Daytona beach.
