It’s been a busy week for Fairfield in the portal. Floyd, Moumine, and Davis put their names in the portal. And Jenkins arrives via the portal from Lafayette.
IF Matt Curtis also enters the portal then we will have NO scholarship guards returning from this years team. A complete clean sweep, a blank blackboard for Casey.

I think the coaches and Matt were stoked at his performance in the last few games. He probably knows he is likely to start, or in the least be first off bench (like Goodine). I can’t see him leaving with the wide open opportunity at FF.
I believe both Davis and Moumine were given scholarships by Jay Young. Both their portal entries, to me, might simply be Casey’s preferences for players differs a bit from Young’s. Since Moumine was redshirted and Davis played so sparingly; I can’t really say what skills they possessed that we are going to have a difficult time replacing.
From the way the team played this year, it’s possible that whatever Young expected Davis and Moumine to develop into —- Casey knew they wouldn’t become what he feels he needs at those positions, since his system varies from Young’s.
Looking forward to seeing who else Casey brings in and if the roster when finally constructed looks to be a MAAC top tier level team.

^^^Lots to comment on the above thread.
1) I would hope that Matt recognizes that he needed a little practice time with the program to develop and to approach the level of the four players that were ahead of him who in my view were all all-conference players. 2) I would also imagine that Matt realizes his playing time next year is going to be significant greater than it was this year. He was the fifth guard all season, and even if everyone had returned but Fields he was going to see a lot of court time this season as it was. With the departures, Matt is likely to be a starter. 3) On Davis, my assessment is that there is some reason to believe that he is not playing at a level where he is likely to contribute significantly next season. I think he realizes this and the coaches realize this. So its not a surprise to me that he might elect to enter the portal or that the coaches might encourage him to enter the portal so he can head to a location where he is likely to see playing time. 4) I feel a little different about Moumine in that I think he is good enough to contribute some next season. I see him playing at the four and no question the signing of this player from Layfette puts him third in the depth chart. So I do understand he may feel he can play immediately somewhere else. I said this last year and I will reiterate what others have said. Outside of an injury that occurs very early in the season, there is really no longer a reason to redshirt anyone. There were times where Moumine might have helped us this season, particularly early in the year.
I agree with RF that unless someone gets injured early in the season, there’s no reason to redshirt a player in the current portal environment. Young had stated that if he had it to do over, he probably wouldn’t have redshirted Rogan two seasons ago as we saw the team shoot a low percentage on their 3s.
Let’s have all 13 scholarship players have some worthwhile basketball skill that would allow those who are getting limited minutes be able to step in and help out if (or when) injuries occur.
