Class of ‘24 point guard for Paul VI in Virginia. Recently decommitted from URI. We and some other mid-majors had offered him before he committed to URI. Fordham and George Mason were the other A-10 schools that had offered him, the other offers were from schools considered to be in lesser conferences than the A-10.
There’s not been a coaching change at URI so we’re left trying to guess why Hammond decommitted. Since Paul VI played in the Chipotle National championship game against Montverde, does Hammond now believe he should play at a higher level than the A-10? Was URI’s NIL$ low and he thinks he should go somewhere that he’ll get more NIL$?
Our inquiry might simply have been to ask him why he decommitted and to let him know we still have an offer for him. I started a new thread because I don’t know for a fact that we have offered him after he announced he’s leaving URI so I couldn’t see putting this in the class of ‘24 offers thread and he’s not in the transfer portal.
From the maxpreps article on Paul VI winning their opening game in the Chipotle postseason tournament.
The first game of the day saw MaxPreps Top 25 No. 1 Paul VI (Chantilly, Va.) dismantle National Top 10 No. 5 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) 101-89. Four-star Duke signee Darren Harris led the way with 36 points to go along with seven rebounds and three assists. Rhode Island signee Ben Hammond chipped in 20 points, 13 assists and four steals in the victory.
