6’ guard played his freshman season at Mercer and last season at Indian Hills Community College in Iowa. Both seasons he hit over 40% on his three point attempts.
So two guards who can shoot. Need a few more — big guard and a PG for sure. Wonder if we will even have a freshman on this team.
Even if we get two more guards as you suggest, we’d still have 3 scholarships left to give out. I hope at least two of them go to freshmen, but they would need to be freshmen that we aren’t going to redshirt. Unless the portal and NIL rules get changed this summer (which I don’t think is going to happen), I’d prefer no freshmen get redshirted. Of course, I also prefer that we not schedule a D3 home game so it doesn’t look like my preferences carry much weight with the program.
Sparks visited last week I think where we lose size in Jasper we gain shooting with Sparks. I’ve heard coaches and players were impressed by him when he played pick up with the guys on his visit. He’s a true point guard who can defend at a high level. He was ranked as the 76 best prospect in the Nation in the JUCO ratings that came out recently and he’s a player who was on a 29-6 Indian Hills community college team so he played at a high-level.
My biggest question is how he coexist with a 5-8 guard. I think our last two guard spots needed to be spent on guards with more size so we can defend at the 3G position and play with 4 guard sets like we did last year. I’d even get a fifth freshman guard to make sure we have enough.

The size factor, especially with these two new guards together, is a reasonable question to wonder just how it will be handled. That said, based on this past season, in Casey I trust as I'm sure he has thought about this very same thing. And I like that you say his workout with the squad went well. That can be a true indicator of what his value may be. Great student too apparently. So that's good. Anyway it looks like the rebuild, hopefully augmented by your intelligent wishes for more length and size means the Stags will once again be a high scoring running type of team with good shooters on the perimeter. As with all new guys coming on board I hope Braden has a great experience here and therefore makes him (and us) very happy.
