So I'd like to hear from bridgeport or anyone else who's seen both Segura and Nolan play on multiple occasions, which ONE would you pick to team up with Tyler in the backcourt for the next few years and why?
StagAl, question if Nolan is that good, then why is he red shirting next year? Particularly when the stags need help at the guard position? Is he this this years impact player like threat and degnan were suppose to be?
Actually if you read back I was hoping that Tyler would become the next Desantis. He's not doing that badly so far, but doesn't have all the skills of Joey as yet. My point on the Fisher/DeSantis combo was that labels of PG and SG were not so well defined back then as it is now. Tyler may go down in Stag history as one of the best shooters of all time. Tommy may be remember for other traits. I see Nolan as more of an all around player with perhaps better skills similar to Billy Jones in the 60's. Who knows how he will turn out in college and under what coach and system will he play? That will determine his legacy down the road. In conclusion, I'd love to see the Nelson/Nolan combo run our backcourt, you pick who you think they are most similar to.

I've been wondering the same thing. I haven't seen Nolan play, but it's hard to believe some of the optimism if he's red shirting, especially when this team needs good players now.

Nolan should reconsider his commitment to Fairfield IMO. Not sure we deserve him. He is redshirting because the school has not ONE scholarship available for next year. They asked him to please come to Fairfield even though he will only get the 4 years free after his first year- so he agreed. He will get a Masters out of the deal. Some followers on this board are aware that he held offers from Iona, Loyola, U New Hampshire, Vermont, Quinnipiac, Stonybrook, Sacred Heart, and most all the NEC schools. He does not NEED to redshirt for basketball development purposes. Nolan was doing Fairfield a favor by accepting the situation back when it was proposed. Things will change and a betting person would say that there will be many players leaving and not many interested in coming under the current coaching situation. We would be lucky to get Nolan- and keep Tyler. If I were Tyler I would not be here next year either. Joey D would be the first one to say that Nolan can be special, but maybe not for Sydney. Anyone who doesn't see that potential didn't see him go head to head with Casimir on several occasions. Ask Casimir if he would want to go up against Nolan next year. IMO he would be the 3rd best player on the team NEXT year if he plays and will add much needed fire and intensity. That is worth a lot of points.
74, I never saw Threatt or Degnan play in high school or JC, all I know about them is how highly touted they were just like everyone else did.
On the other hand, I've seen Nolan play most home games and some away games for the past 3 years. Last year when he was a Junior I was wishing that some day he'd be a Stag, and I was very excited when I heard that was to become a reality. Watching him grow and excel on the court is much different than just hearing how good someone has been.
I believe that due to the lack of available scholarships for next year that they came to a mutual agreement to focus on academics, less pressure, getting stronger, etc. and thus the redshirt decision. I don't know that is in cement and hoping not, much is in flux now as you well know.
Thanks Talladega, see you and I agree about Nolan. I too hope with all that is going on that we don't lose Nelson, and would like to expedite Nolan's arrival.
It must be that Sydney wanted to keep another spot open to even out the classes a bit and hope for a star at another position perhaps. As a redshirt maybe Nolan gets an academic scholarship next year and use his fifth year for a graduate degree?
Forty five offers out for 2016 according to Verbal Commits. That's incredible. Lack of focus or lack of confidence?
Degnan was slowed by the preseason foot injury. Nothing worse for a freshman than missing time, early. He had multiple A-10 offers and will be a major contributor, if he stays. No one can discount the possibility of unexpected transfers.
