Joe Stag, if a player graduates, that is not considered " throwing him under the bus". Why the need for a derogatory remark about Ed Cooley? He has twice the class of our current coach.

Recruiting isn't over! My hunch is that Sydney is going to make an all-out pitch to save next season by bringing in at least one if not more 5th year guys. Maybe even another JC, but after this last season he might be more hesitant in this area. But there is still time to bring in much needed late help. It is done by many schools all the time.
Nashville - I agree 100%. There is time to get a good player for next year. My point is the new coaches are not going to be able to help with that. I don't expect anyone to be on board until long after all players are committed.
Listen, things are ugly, but there is always a chance. Think people are getting a bit draconian.
We have: Nelson, Gilbert, and Kirk next year...
We have up and comers: Segura and Degnan
And still think Smith and Coleman can be solid role players, too.
But, as I keep reiterating (and I will be more explicit here), Syd needs to take some responsibility or I will not support this 2nd chance. And, that is what it is, let's not beat around the bush.
But we still have SJ. I don't think really anyone has given up on our players. I like almost everyone we have. I think we have guys that can do things to help the team win. I would be fairly upbeat about this group going into next season with a new coach. But to win next year we would need to see something different from the coaching staff, which I am not confident we will ever see from this group.

RF, I agree with you about Coach Syd. He is a dead man walking, IMO. He won 7 games last year and we had a statistically poor team compared to other D-1 teams. Where was the sense of urgency in the coach or the program? We got an unskilled, physically soft and mentally not tough team for this past year. And the good news is....most are coming back with the same guy at the helm. Say what? There is no 4 or 5 star stud coming. We may get a fifth year senior, but does that really address the "recruiting issue"? We are renting a role player for one year. That is akin to bringing a band-aid to open heart surgery. It might help in a oinch in a particular area but will it save the patient? Hell, no. And replace the assistant coaches with HS and AAU coaches? Unless their last name was Hurley (and we were able to go back in time), all this would do is confirm amateur hour is starting every time the ball was tossed up at the beginning of the game.

I should have put a smiley face after Cooley throwing Harris under the Bus. I was was just using the same phrase as everyone else does, when a player leaves..... for good reasons or not. The point is this happens all the time in all programs. Actually what I heard was that Harris was never a Cooley guy and he , and his father, had an inflated idea of his NBA talent level. If Cooley, is still in good graces with Harris, hopefully he could he send Harris our way.

I am sure it is possible that another scholarship or two might open up, but we currently only have ONE open scholarship for next season: Johnston and Threatt leaving, Nolan arriving: www.verbalcommits.com/schools/fairfield.

Aren't recruits going to wonder how spots opened up? Like why are players leaving or being told to? And why would I want to be in that situation...could it happen to me?

Right on. Saw this quote in the Providence Journal this week and thought it was telling, reinforces what we already knew. After the loss, Henton took to Instagram to express his feeling on the end of his career to all PC fans. His post read: “Thank you Friartown for all the great memories that you have brought into my life. Providence College has helped me become a man on and off the court. Coach Cooley has made a huge impact on my life beyond basketball. He is a great coach and mentor. It was an honor to be coached by him..."
Any Fairfield seniors you think will say something like this year or next?
Quote from Cooley after the loss: "But it just was -- we didn't have a good day. And that's on me as the coach. I gotta do a better job when I get my team back here again."
Wow, what a contrast in leadership and attitude compared to SJ and GD who blame a bad loss and season on bad talent, recruiting, and lack of player leadership.

Apparently they teach humility and class in the slums of Providence but not in that halls of Princeton.
