The iffy situation on Sidibe's health is unfortunate and really screws it up. Potentially he can again have 2-3 decent games and then be a shadow of his prime self the rest of the season. Is there a medical solution for his knees?
We need a rebounder next -- more than a PG IMO, unless Degnan and Malcolm can blossom in the off season with a solid big man tutor. Both could not handle the physicality under the basket and needed a couple of post moves.

I have not heard of any change to Nolan's status..... as far as the scholarship not going into effect until 2016-17. My understanding is that both Fairfield and Nolan's Family were in agreement to that.
IMO, bringing in a PG as a 5th year senior and a Big Man is of equal importance. Good Guards are what win in the MAAC. We can win with role players upfront. I do hope Marcus plays more as a PF on defense.
JS, to clarify, does this mean that if Nolan redshirt's next year as previously reported, he is not on scholarship until 2016-2017 (i.e., Fairfield still has two scholarships left for this coming season, per Chappell leaving)? I didn't think it worked that way...I thought Nolan would be on scholarship in 2015-2016 even if he redshirts. Verbal Commits also indicates that Nolan would be on scholarship next year.
At the time the agreement with Tommy Nolan was reached last year (during his Junior year), I believe it was projected that there would only be one scholarship open for his Freshman year at Fairfield. Much has changed in the interim and more positions are now open, so I would think that some discussion might be going on concerning this which would be in his best interest.

As it stands now, no scholarship until 16-17 for Nolan. It could change, but scholarships don't have to be finalized until June 30.

Thanks. So, assuming no scholarship, Nolan would be a walk-on / redshirt for 2015-2016, then would receive a scholarship and be a redshirt freshman athletically in 2016-2017, correct?
Hey Stagz back off. I was joking about the probation. Enough of the "post police" Until Syd proves otherwise, I will remain skeptical.(Im allowed to feel that way).

TMAAC - A lot of us will be skeptical until Syd proves otherwise. Here's the thing though. Give Sydney - Michael Jordan, Larry Byrd, and Kolbe Bryant and he'll win a few games. No coach is so bad that they can't win at least some games given enough talent. So I am putting my comments on SJ on hold for a few days and I am going to try and enjoy the signing of a good recruit for at least a few days. After all, as much as I want SJ to go I want that because I want the team to be successful. Getting good players will help the program improve regardless of what happens with sj.

Nolan, Cobb -- positive signs. After two 7 win seasons, SHOW ME.
When you look at our talent, there is no reason this team can't be at least a .500 win team in the MAAC.
I think it could have been the case this year and I won't rehash why it didn't happen.
We are all bummed and looking for good news.
This is very good news, but I would advise all to avoid over inflating their expectations but enjoy the moment.

Exactly JS, no word of any change in Nolan's situation right now. Subject to change of course, but given the urgency of improving quickly I do believe that a 5th year PG with outstanding playing and leadership abilities certainly would take precedence over advancing Tommy up a year if the right guy could be found.
Hey paulie, we've discussed that before in TNT2 thread and elsewhere. I believe the biggest consideration for Nolan's redshirting was that it was projected to have only one scholarship position open for next year and something like 6 or 7 for the following one and the needs of the team. Things have changed and right now there are still 2 scholarships open (after Cobb), so I hope Tommy gets one of them. As Joe says, you can never have too many good guards. I'm wondering what will happen to Rose? Will he still get a scholarship if he stays?
Hoop Dreams has an article from last night on Cobb. It has their version of a scouting repot on him. They say he is more Lengthy, than Quick..... but with a good first step and ability to finish above the rim. THey also list him at 6-5. To me, that points to more of a 3G type of player, instead of 1 or a 2. Most of the videos do show that he changes speeds quite well, utilizing a hesitation dribble and good first step. IMO, the real key is that if Cobb is good enough to be a better 3G than Marcus..... then that will force Marcus to play a lot more at PF, a position that he could be more effective at.
As I watch more video of Cobb, he reminds me a lot of Michael Carter-Williams ( in style of play and looks), formerly of Syracuse and the NBA ROY last year. Ironically, both are from Massachusetts
Curtis Cobb, a 6-foot-5 guard who stars for Wilbraham & Monson whose recruitment ranged from Providence and Wake Forest eventually chose Fairfield from the list of suitors...... Cobb, a versatile scorer who can hit the long range ball and possess a smooth handle with the ball in hand that allows him to get in the lane to make plays. Not a quick prospect but a lengthy one that has a first step showing off a sneaky athleticism to finish above the rim.
