Yes, Segura injured and what happened to Kasibabu? Definitely worried about these two developments.
Tempo definitely changed. Think it is a combination of better talent, but also the coaches adjusting to our strengths and letting the kids play to their strengths, FINALLY.
Great way to go into Thanksgiving! Happy T-Day everyone! Talk up the Stags when you are getting stuffed.
Stagz -- nothing wrong with Kasibabu. Just picked up two quick fouls in the first half, then two more just as quick in the second. By that time the Stags were up 30, so SJ went with King, Degnan, Kirkland, etc.
Rome turned his ankle on a drive. Looked like he landed on another players shoe. He hopped around and made his foul shots. He never returned and most likely is questionable for Friday. That would make that an even tougher game.
I was out officiating a high school scrimmage. Got in the car to drive home around 8:30, turned on WCBS-880 (which remarkably comes in clear as a bell in Virginia in late fall and winter) to get the score ... and darn near drove off the road when I heard it. Couldn't help but wonder if they had reported it correctly but, lo and behold, this thread confirms that it is true.
Maybe the Stags should make a trip to a MEAC school a Thanksgiving week tradition. I remember Fairfield traveling to Howard for a game the night before Thanksgiving during the Cooley era. I was one of only about 50 people at the game, but the Stags put on a clinic that night too.

“I think we committed ourselves to a way that rewards our shooters and rewards our unselfishness,” Head Coach Sydney Johnson said. “That’s the way we want to play. I am thinking of Colin, (Nickerson), Derek (Needham), and Des (Wade) and how they were able to make us go. We have some guard play with Jerome (Segura), Tyler (Nelson), Jerry (Johnson) and Curtis (Cobb) that allows us to go. Guards are critical. To the degree that we scored, I can’t say that I have seen that. But I have seen that type of guard play while I have coached here.”....
Fairfield Basketball @stagsmensbball: In tonight's win, the Stags set the school record for Most 3-Point Field Goals Made with 17!
Nothing in the CT POST on-line about the 113 point win but a Staff Report about the Women's loss to Hofstra.
UMES also has the similar problem of attendance as the box score only has 846 fans at the game.
Very uncharacteristic for a Sydney team. Have the assistants finally gotten through to him? Hope boring ball is gone for good. Could actually be entertaining for the fans.
Jerry Johnson has really surprised me this year. I was not expecting much from him but knew he had a nice stroke. He has shown me that he has a much more complete game than I thought.
The guard play was amazing with regards to Passing, Ballhandling, Shooting and Rebounding. We certainly have a talented set of 4 guards that were clicking last night.
- Segura started like a man on fire by rebounding, and blowing by everyone coast to coast and dishing off - Then Jerry Buckets just attacked the hoop off steals, great passes and some very impressive drive like a young John Bagley. He creates momentum. - Tyler then showed his Tom Brady like long passing to go with no look passes, and tip passes and leading players like a QB. He is playing in the style of Steph Curry - And then it was Cobb's turn after a few turnovers, his crossover dribble, and drive and dish passes gave it to wide open shooters. Smooth, and then quietly quick.
But the biggest catalyst was our passing. UMES's players had their heads spinning. And then Marcus, Tyler, Cobb and Milin all easily drained threes….. because their feet were set. All setup by quick ball penetration.
Many stars of the game, and Marcus was a supreme finisher Inside, Outside and on the fast break….. even coast to coast. Marcus is a great finisher. with 4 guards that can play like we did, Marcus can be great.
I think in college ball today and with the shot clock changes it makes it very hard to play the Princeton offense. From the beginning, I don't think that was Sydney's intent. I think he wanted to take aspects and apply it. I think our issue the last two years was the lack of guards/shooters. Now, we are blessed with more options than we had during the Needham, Wade, Nickerson era.
I am surprised at how good the four freshman are and how quickly they seem to be adapting to the college game. Individually any one of them would improve the team, all four gives us an injection of talent that we haven't seen. After the offensive output against Yale I thought we were in for another year of struggling to score 50. Last night we struggled to score 50 in the first half. (well it was a struggle compared to the 66 we scored in the 2nd half)

In a season of Thanksgiving, I am thankful!!!
It's going to be a fun winter.
I agree Z……"our issue the last two years was the lack of guards/shooters" . However I do feel we had some shooters the last 2 years. We just did not have the guards that could do the basic Skills of Ballhandling and Penetrate-and-Dish. And we did not have those guards in an era of these rule changes that emphasized offensive players that can drive and dish. It was a "Double-Negative". Not only is our guard play better, but we are playing more of a 3 guard line-up….. about 50% of the time. Better guard play with more guards…... I call that a Double-Positive. And the other improvement is moving Marcus to the PF for at least 50% of the game. He is a finisher, not a guard.

Jerry Buckets is like a young John Bagley. Great comparison!

And because of that reason (better guards), Sydney has been able to totally transform his team's style and pace. What some of us have been saying in the past, the man had been struggling in recruiting the quality and quantity of players he needed to be a good team. Much more so the reason than he had totally forgotten how to actually coach them. After all he did have success at the previous stop. Of course the season is early. Hopefully Jerome is not out too long (word from the arena was it shouldn't be too serious). Tyler has been super in the role as a backup, but if he has to do too much of these duties, that might hurt his scoring production a bit.In summing up the night however, certainly it was a warm and euphoric evening for JS, Terp and myself. Been on many trips and experienced more than my share of misery, but a night like this teaches that being positive sometimes has its rewards.
