no friends of friends of the team leaking anything? i'm curious how the players feel about this.
I’m thinking this is how we got the second hand information that we do have. Unless a different explanation is put forth — I’m going to have to believe the second hand information we have is the explanation for what happened on Monday.
Fairfieldstags7 said: “WE DON'T WANT LUKE MURRAY: He is a bad guy! Yes Bill Murray would be nice at games but luke is the scum of College Basketball we don't need another scandal.”
Why not Murray? He has Big East pedigree, knows how it’s done at high major, and is an alum. His famous dad should not be a factor. Maybe he would have a bit of arrogance, but other than that???
From many of my coaching contacts Murray has a terrible reputation for living on the wild side with recruiting possibly breaking rules....working with... Chris mack ... sean miller... we need a stable recruiter and coach
He is an alum.... but he never was with the team when he was here he dosen't bleed red & white
He has never been a head coach anywhere he has always been th #2-3 on the staff. He will crumble.
We need someone who can be a program builder that does things by the book. Murray would jump for the next decent opportunity.
Thats why Joe Gallo is on the top of my list he is a true program builder and does things by the book
#2 would be Kimani Young... Started New Heights a top tier AAU program... head coach experience.. great recruiter
#3 Darren Savino UCLA Assistant: Has a FFLD connection with being on Desantis staff at QU, has been at the top and bottom of the College basketball
You guys see Luke Murray as the prized candidate but that is completely blurred by his bad reputation in the coaching industry and his inexperience not leading any program. Most of his Success is due to Danny Hurley
Have read through this entire thread and have been most interested in potential candidates for the HC position being put forth by knowledgeable posters. There are some intriguing names. But does anybody trust this AD to make the right hire?
Jay Young was a crony hire. At the time I had some concerns about the hire, but being the ever-optimistic Fairfield alumni, I shrugged and continued my usual support of the program. It did not take all that long to observe that the JY tenure was not going to work. Mediocre recruiting, a tedious style of play (that probably made it difficult to recruit), unbalanced and spotty rosters, and a stubborn refusal to adjust schemes to the roster he assembled were consistent features of the JY era. His body language on the sideline was awful, and I never had the sense that players had any fun playing for him.
Yet the AD, despite the results on the floor, extended and continued the reign of his friend.
The utter mediocrity (and that's being generous) of the basketball program, combined with the falling off of the map by lacrosse, Fairfield's other signature sports program, should have cost the AD his job already. Hopefully, the administration does the right thing and moves on from this AD and other department staff before the critical hire of a head basketball coach is made.
Luke Murray, Assistant Coach - UCONN Men's Basketball
Luke Murray is in his second season as an assistant coach, joining Coach Dan Hurley’s staff in April, 2021, helping the Huskies earn an NCAA Tournament berth in 2021-22.
Murray, who previously worked under Coach Hurley at both Wagner and Rhode Island, has 14 years of college coaching experience at six programs, most recently before coming to UConn, Murray was an assistant coach for three years at Louisville.
A native of Palisades, N.Y., and a 2007 graduate of Fairfield University with a degree in sociology, Murray has earned a nationwide reputation as an outstanding evaluator of talent and one of the top recruiters in college basketball. He has been ranked by ESPN as one of the top 10 coaches under 40, similarly been named by The Athletic as one of 40 influential people in college basketball under 40, and recognized by 247Sports as one of the top five recruiters in the nation......

FU needs leadership and that leadership should have be on full on display right after this announcement - minutes, not days or hours.
Nothing to do with cowardice--all to do with litigation
What we don't know is what can be said officially by anyone at FU.
You can be fairly certain that there are NDA's involved in these resignations/terminations.
IMO, what was released is probably all that can be said by any administrator. Even saying something privately puts them at risk. It also opens them up to subpoena for other subsequent litigation not directly involved in this case. (e.g. divorce proceedings, defamation suits, etc).
When asked under oath "Did you discuss..." it's imperative you keep your mouth shut if you're a party to an NDA. All the public needs to know is personnel has changed and the season goes on. In my business career, numerous resignation/terminations were handled the same way.
No, those not a party to the action (players, people over hearing conversations, etc.) will have the "unofficial explanation" and I am certain we will hear fairly consistent accounts of what actually occurred.
More bad news on the Men's Basketball front. I feel like a fool following the team since the '58-59 season. So little success and the recent debacle of extending Sydney and continuing to tolerate Jay. The Leo could have inaugurated success, instead it is like a jinx. Throwing good money after bad. When will it end?

I’m looking at this as a fresh start a year earlier than I anticipated. Any player considering a departure would be wise to see how this plays out. It could be very good for the players and fans. Go Stags!

One can lead / show his face and not get sued. They are cowards. We need lawyers and PR folks that can help through difficult times. Something needs to be said. It’s too public, it’s not flattering and it can’t be ignored.
The situation doesn’t have to be directly addressed but “I’m in charge of everything and will work my but off to fix things” or something like that needs to be publicly said. Mark and Paul are in charge. Not a lawyer. Mid level folks can hid behind lawyers.

So Nemec is a coward because he's not handling a situation the way you think he should, even though we almost certainly don't know as much about what happened as he does. You criticize Fairfield's administration, from lower-level folks right through and including Nemec, quite a bit. What is your university administration background?
I understand the pool of potential takers is limited as of right now as many assistants would be pulling the same move of leaving their respective programs three weeks before the season as well. I get that it's not as much of an impact, but the morals stand. We would be narrowed down to unaffiliated coaches, for now.
That's just my assumption, but maybe I am wrong. I presume we are left with Chris Casey for the larger portion of the season and all these "potential" candidates are EOY/offseason wish lists to me for the time being.

Calling people cowards without any detailed information is strictly amateur hour. As is the suggestion that the administration isn't consulting lawyers and PR people.
Trilly Donovan’s article in burnerball.com today confuses what I thought I understood. He’s claiming multiple sources are telling him Johns is on administrative leave and that neither Dougher or Young was involved in the incident in Costa Rica.
The university reportedly opened an investigation into the program following the team’s foreign tour to Costa Rica. University officials interviewed coaches, players and staff about an alleged incident involving one of the assistant coaches. One source familiar with the situation said Dougher and Young were not present at the time of the incident, but their actions after the investigation started ultimately led to their dismissals. Johns remains on leave and it’s unclear if he will return to the team this season.
Well... that makes it sound like Johns was allegedly involved in something... administration got wind... Young and Dougher bro-coded when the administration tried to investigate and were let go?
And as long as nobody knows what happened... speculation will continue.
