While most everyone is getting ready for the start of this season, 6’3” Isaiah Gray of Cornell and 6’5” guard Chris Manon are letting teams know they’ll be entering the transfer portal in March. Gray started all 28 games for Cornell last season and is from Brooklyn NY. He was the 5th leading scorer for Cornell last year. Manon only started 8 of Cornell’s games but was the third leading scorer on the team. Manon is from New Milford, NJ. Iv League players are not allowed to play for their school for their Covid year nor are they able to use their Covid year at another Ivy League school so it looks like Gray and Manon are getting out ahead of other Ivy League seniors who wish to extend their eligibility in making this announcement now.
6’9” Sean Hansen started all 28 games for Cornell last season. He’s from Ramsey NJ and he’s announced he’ll be entering the portal.
There are a couple more seniors on the Cornell roster still so I believe it’s just a matter of time before they announce.
We are listed as having expressed interest in D2 Franklin Pierce 6’7” forward, Sean Trumper, who will be entering the transfer portal. To me, the tweet is very misleading — the portal doesn’t open until the day after Selection Sunday. We might have shown interest in Trumper in the past but the tweet makes it seem like we’ve recently expressed interest in him, which I doubt.
Trumper is interesting because his team is still playing; begin league playoffs Friday. He did not play in Pierce's final regular season game last night.
Probably will be another record for portal names. I don’t doubt we’ll have more than a few players entering themselves in the coming weeks. Whatever the school, there is little reason for players not to at least test the waters.
If I remember correctly the portal opens up tomorrow on 3/18. The good news is it is open for 45 days unlike last year when open for 60 days. Perhaps the loss or gain of players will be known sooner then later. Also I expect more information on the “ Red Sea” Collective announced at the last home game to become known. So perhaps this will help to minimize the number of players lost or help to bring talent into the program. I expect two of these three guards to leave (Goodine, Leach, Floyd). Maybe all three in this world of the portal.

Yes, get ready for the craziness of the transfer portal which opens up tomorrow. Most assuredly we will lose one or two stalwarts that we hate to lose. However given our terrific season, the fast paced offense that most players love and the beautiful arena we play in, I like our chances of attracting some top level additions to our program, perhaps a clone of Corey Washington to be a high scoring forward to join our certain to be guard oriented offense under Coach Casey.
Of course, the elephant in the room is will FF be recruiting to the MAAC or another conference? A move up may keep other schools from poaching CTD from the women's side.
FF is not leaving the MAAC when it’s president is leading the strategic planning committee for the conference. Secondly FF will most likely loose CTD to a bigger school. Her leaving would be a natural progression in her career.
The portal officially opened at midnight. Siena’s Eley is in it. Also, former Iona player Greg Gordon is in the portal although the fact that he wouldn’t be on Iona’s roster next season seemed to be a certainty when he left the team with only a few weeks left in the regular season. In addition to Dinkins and Frank Mitchell, forward Xzavier Long of Canisius has also put his name in the portal.

It could happen, but I think the coaching landscape in women's basketball is a little different. All signs point to the Stags being even better and an administration that is fully behind the program. We'll see... but I think they are building something.

Sometimes the job/opportunity you want is not available right away. Good thing is now, FU is a great place to stay at. Admin and community behind the program, new arena, great part of the country to recruit in…. I think CTD is a very smart, strategic coach/person. She is not going to jump just for anything. Also, she & staff are building something special here. There is a like of gratification in that!
