My guess it’s a business decision. Why risk getting hurt.
There might be some benefits coming out of this decision. Perhaps Curtis and Davis will get some playing time that otherwise Leach would have. Both saw limited PT this year and actual game time would be good for both.
I’m thinking the forwards on the stags most likely will not be portal bound. At least it makes sense that Smith, Seck and Bleechmore and Rogan will remain. Smith is a work in progress and could be a good MAAC player next year. Seck also needs additional seasoning and has already transferred once. Bleechmore also could be all MAAC and like Seck has transferred once. Hopefully, Rogan will not be hurt and flourish as a Stag next year as did Leach did this year. Unlike this year when FF needed forwards Casey will need to rebuild his guards with experience portal players. Fields , Leach and most likely Goodine will not be with the team next year. I am hoping Floyd who transferred from a JC will remain with the Stags and be the leader of next years team. Next season is Time for Curtis to live up to his advanced billing and for Davis to show us what he can get done.
Moumine also red-shirted and I'd like to get a look at what he can do. I have ZERO idea.
stags74 I hope you're right re: everyone else remaining. I like your reasoning and they would lay the foundation of a promising team (assuming Casey can then fit the right pieces around them). Would not be surprised to see Curtis and/or Davis also go portal-ing. Would, also, not be surprised to see efforts to "recruit over" them. On the other hand, they could show up this summer and change that narrative with improved play and each has only used 1 year of eligibility.

I hope the incentive for Jasper remaining is to be a featured scoring guard. Next move after one more season is pro. He can put up numbers as a Stag. That said, could see him entering to see what’s out there.
We’re listed as having expressed interest in 6’1” guard Maurice Odum of Pacific. He averaged 8+ ppg and 4+ assists per game. He grew up in NYC and Pacific plays in the same league as Gonzaga and St. Mary’s.
I will miss Jalen, he’s a great guy, he played his heart out for us and I wish him well wherever he lands. If we can’t have him, hope he heads to my Fighting Irish of Notre Dame!!

Lots of statements being made about transfers and the portal, not just on this board, but on twitter. Based on what I know some of the comments are accurate and some of them are ill informed. Bottom line is I am not going to assume anything until a name hits the portal. Everyone has their own personal situation and motivations. The casual fan doesn't really know about what is really driving these players.
I hope Casey can keep the band together. I would hope that a player like Leach would be welcomed back if they don't get the offer then are looking for, ala Jesus.

Agree. And hope we are in a position to offer something. Would think we are.
I’m going to take the other side of the Jalen portal decision. Yes, he played exceptionally well this year and was likely our co-MVP this season. That said, what about “unfinished business?” I mean, yes we had a great year but we fell just short. Where’s the desire to finish the job?? Or is this now just the state of college sports?
Saw a tweet a few weeks ago which succinctly summed up portal decisions for players. Here’s the way I remember it being presented.
If your main concern is NIL $$$, seek out high majors. They’ll have the most NIL $$$ available.
If your main concern is playing time, commit to the school that recruits you the hardest. They definitely see you filling one of their needs.
With 362 D1 schools, players 6’8” or taller can take their time deciding. Guards need to decide quickly simply because there are so many more players in that height range.

New world my friend. Stay and very possibly fall short again or get hurt, or move up, pick up some NIL money and prove u can make an impact at a higher level. And tee up ur post college career. In Jalen’s case I would think this is the smart move.
Where would Lou be today if she played her grad year at FU? Good chance of being drafted but cemented the first round pick, saving Geno’s ass in the process. Thanks for the memories Jalen, but sounds like the right move for you. Best of luck!

You know if he lands in the right place its the right move and if he lands in the wrong place its not. I look back at Brycen Goodine, someone who was a top recruit. I followed him at Syracuse and he didn't play much. Cooley promised him minutes to transfer and he hardly saw the floor at Providence. I'd hate to see BG for example spend his final year of basketball buried on the bench when he could be an impact player at the right school. The same is true for leach. If Leach goes to a program that really gets a guard and plays 25 minutes a game it will be the right move. If he ends up being an 8th or 9th man it might be a wrong one. He's a good player and should see the floor. I'm not sure how much he would have played this year on last place Georgetown, so he has to be careful about where he ends up.

Can we offer NIL money to our players that enter the transfer portal and we want to retain them? Could we offer Jalen a NIL package to remain at Fairfield?
