Brycen visited Oklahoma this weekend and rumor is he might commit. We will see, I don’t see this as a good move for an almost 25 a year old kid who wants to crush it for one year and get a pro deal. OU will have several guys with his skill set in his role. If he struggles he will quickly be passed over at his level. I guess the short term NIL money is most important for him. This is a kid who will be on his 4th school. College basketball folks!

Brycen leaving FF is anticipated by all , even more so then Leach and certainly more then Floyd. To be expected from a guy w/o any allegiance and as indicated a money grab. A poster boy for college athletes. Money talks all else walks. Post Covid college athletics of today.

This is his first pro deal. YES money talks. It has talked in every single job I've ever had in my life. Did it not for some of you?
I thought Brycen graduated Fairfield? Don't get me wrong... I would LOVE him back on the Stags... but I think he's in the career phase of life, no? He probably has confidence in his skills... sure... he's unlikely to face challenges for minutes at Fairfield... but whether he's 1st Team All-MAAC or only a player off the bench for OU - he'll have further pro options and his future career will depend on how he progresses with those.
It's also a chance to play big conference basketball and enjoy all that offers. That's a thing. A real thing. No matter what - Fairfield can't offer that like OU can.
And I'm just stating this again... everyone is one a 1-year contract, now. You just can't get attached.
Look at Seton Hall. They get turned around under a popular coach. Have a great season. Look like they could add a few guys and be a favorite for the NCAAT... and the whole team transfers.

^Agree. This is his pro contract. He’s got a child. Get the payday when you can especially with his knee issues. I suspect he hardly cares about the level at this stage and would rather be closer to home, and if Fairfield matched he might stay. But we’re not Oklahoma. Heck, as noted, Seton Hall isn’t in the same game as the Oklahomas out there. As for the pro game after college, Brycen is an elite shooter and when healthy should have a decent chance at Euro Cup level or near it.

Yes, the college game has likely changed forever, with fan loyalty suffering as a result. I’ll accept that as long as 1) the Stags stay ahead of other MAAC schools in terms of being competitive within the system (and perhaps move up and out of the MAAC), and 2) the NCAA or powers in charge of NIL institute tighter control (enforceable laws) over how all schools must operate their NIL. There has to be policing in place and transparency. I believe there is an ugly underbelly of NIL involving shady practices, and it has to be rooted out with strong penalties or repercussions for offending schools. The whole notion of scholarships has been destroyed, despite the fact that education should be the principal goal of the college experience.
Schools can market their branded gear but none of it should be specific to individual players. Player autograph sessions and public appearances should be solely for charitable purposes / community service and goodwill. Being a student is not a job.

If Brycen has his degree in hand, my view of a transfer is vastly different
I agree, but why drag your family to OK? He is just as likely to get limited time there and not repeat his high 3 % or 40 pt performance as he is to elevate his chances of a pro career with that extra year. And the chance of another injury? Maybe there is a OK grad degree that is of interest, but I’d go to Europe and start my pro career if my Fairfield education is done.

My position continues to be to blame the SYSTEM and not the KIDS. As far as any kid is concerned, what in their best judgement is best for them and their loved ones is what they have the right to pursue despite what WE might want to happen. BTW the system stinks and I wish it had never gotten to this. But since it is what it is, certainly the people involved have the right to use it to their best (perceived) advantage, do they not?

Erased a lot of words... and instead a classic musical tribute from the Fairfield Stags Message Board to our lost guards (Jalen, Brycen, and Jasper)!

I thought Brycen did enough last season to garner a professional contract, and I expected him to go pro. After all, he's been in school for five years. I assume that he has a Fairfield undergraduate degree. I have no idea about his graduate studies. Maybe he feels he needs one more big season to optimize (and monetize) the next chapter or maybe he wants to prove that, once and for all, he can play at the highest level of D1. In any case, he's earned the right to make this move to Oklahoma. There is risk, of course -- see Ferron Flavors at Oklahoma State. But he's placing a bet on his talent, and I think it's a good wager. I expect him to play well in the SEC, as I expect Leach to play well in the Big 10.

Brycen was not a productive player at Syracuse (ACC). Not productive at Providence (Big East). One injury year and one productive year at Fairfield. Now he's off to the SEC? Track record suggests he's a good MAAC player, and there's nothing wrong with that. Hope it works out for him, and either way he should be able to make some money playing overseas if that's what he chooses.
Is it official? Btw, there are a lot of reasons to stay at FU, too…. Shot at more MAAC accolades, shot at leading team back to NCAA and entering FU history forever, being near home, support network (fam and friends for young family), playing for Chris who used him effectively, and who knows what we are offering him in NIL…. The list goes on…
