Jerome Segura had 21 points in a 5-point loss over the weekend. The game was billed as one of featured games in Houston
Langham Creek vs. Cypress Lakes (Berry Center), 7:30 p.m. Players to see: Jerome Segura, 5-10, Sr. (Fairfield signee); De’Aaron Fox, 6-3, So. (23 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists) What’s at stake: Langham Creek is 2-0 in 17-5A while Cy Lakes (1-1) recently loss a heart breaker at home against Cypress Woods. Another defeat would dig the Spartans into an early hole. The point guard battle should be epic: Segura is the area’s top-rated floor general while Fox is the state’s top scoring sophomore.

Tyler Nelson in a 3 minute game Video below. The opposition played a Diamond-and-1 on him, and he resorted to being a distributor in the first 3 quarters and then a scorer in the 4th quarter. We know this kid can shoot, so if he can continue to expand his game as a distributor/ballhandler, that would be huge for the Stags:
Nelson, who was held silent for much of the first meeting, solved Andover's diamond-and-one defense on him in the second half and pumped in 11 of his 13 points in the final 16 minutes. His first field goal of the game ignited Central's run in the third quarter. “It's frustrating when they play the box-and-one because you're taken out of the game no matter what you do, no matter how many screens you get,” Nelson said. “I talked to coach and came up with the gameplan to be a distributor tonight and then I knew later in the game I'd get my baskets eventually. I always score in games; I'm a scorer so it's what I do. Early in the game I just tried to be a distributor and get the guys the ball because that was where the advantage was.”
Kevin Deganan was held to 10 points earlier this week in a a loss to Harrison. He and his team did not play well. But they rebounded last night in a win over Nyack:
"In the Harrison game, we didn't really play that hard," said Degnan, who finished with a game-high 21 points, in addition to nine rebounds, four blocks and two steals, in Wednesday's win. "It was a tough loss. It was kind of like a punch in the face, really. We just felt like things needed to be changed right then and right there."
Jerome Segura scored 30 points in his last game. Below is a short video from a prior game of #1 Segura driving to the hoop for a 3-point play and Creating an open 3-pointer for a teammate.
Tyler Nelson is this weeks "Danny V's Hot Shot Player of the Week". I like the idea he is working at making his teammates better, has a High Basketball IQ, and has had success against bigger and more athletic kids
I don't know what each of the thousand words are, but I do know 2 of them..... "Big" and "Strong". So with Mo Barrow graduating, our remaining players who are Big" and "Strong" are both juniors ..... Amadou and Malcolm. Thats his competition for PT

Ami does appear to be physically big and strong when you see him on the court. For comparison I would say he looks a bit like Aaron Brown from a long time ago, although he is probably 3 inches or so taller. Sorry newer fans, I can't think of a more recent player to use as an example. As far as his role on the team, I know that redshirting is not a normal thing at Fairfield (other than injury related), but this might be a good idea in this case. I think this kid is more of a project recruit than someone ready to go right away, and a year banging in the post against Amadou and Malcolm in practice without the pressure of having to perform in games right away might be a good thing IMO.
You're right Sobro, preps might be the perfect solution in this case. As well as gets him better prepared for collegiate play, this would be a great way to clear up the "overloaded" scholarship situation I would think.
This would certainly solve the scholarship situation for next year.
It's still interesting to note that no scholarship players will depart after next season (unless Grennan and/or Malcolm do not decide to return for a 5th year), so we will have no scholarships to give.

Nashville, I had the same thought about the similar build with Aaron Brown. I was afraid to make that comparison though because I thought it might strike up some of the negatives some associate with our old friend Aaron who wasn't always in D1 playing shape.

I really wonder about our scholarship situation - it is an odd one. We have one more commit than we have available scholarships. Sadly given our strange dynamic, one of our young guards may conclude (perhaps wrongly) that they won't see much playing time at Fairfield, simply because at this moment other guards may be a little more ready to contribute and they may decide to leave the program. If that were to happen, I think it would be unfortunate, it would clear up a scholarhip. I think most certainly one of our recruits will prep, or we wouldn't be over the limit now, but even if someone preps, we still have a scholarship problem the year after next because no one is scheduled to depart. The math argues that someone has to be scheduled to leave the program after this season perhaps for personal or family reasons. Its not fair to speculate on who or what might happen, but I do wonder how this situation will resolve itself. Despite this slow start, there is really no one I would like to see leave the program. I think each of our players has potential and will get better.

As far as Lakoju is concerned, read my lips " PROJECT". When I saw the video of him when he was signed, I was singularly unimpressed. He was slow, had no range and was able to dominate because of the league in which he plays and his size. I guess our coach signed him based on potential. As someone mentioned earlier, perhaps a year of prep school is in his future.
