I don't know who Lakoju played against in this one game, but the competition does matter. If he did this against Dematha, that's a good sign. If he did it against St Mary's School for the Terminally Insane, we might not want to read too much into it.
If these tweets were made about his 28 point game he had on Sat (2/8), then I think he played against Vince Van Nes's brother. But Nash could verify that.

It's true that for a large part of the Saturday game Ami was guarded by a second brother of VVN (his other brother is at Southern). And height wise (if not strength wise) they were very similar. Not a great player however as far as competition. I call Ami a project who may or may not make an impact down the road. But he does have some positive points, not the least of which is that he does indeed have a big college ready build and he is pretty good at using it to get position near the basket. And he also has strong mitts (hands) when the ball is thrown to him. Does the competition matter Va?Absolutely it does. However keep in mind that one of the better freshman players in college at the mid-major level right now is a player of similar size who played in this same league last season in Sean Obi of Rice. Certainly he has been a lot better than I expected. And also keep in mind, our own Coleman Johnson DID play against DeMatha and did very well. Not suggesting that he has been a failure (and I think he has the ability to really improve in his final two seasons), but yet his performing well against big time HS comp has certainly not guaranteed him being a star at the next level. Heart, hustle, work ethic, coachability all play an important part of why some kids achieve and some fail at the next level, no matter who they played against at the scholastic level.
I couldn't agree more but what surprises me is that we have heard virtually nothing about Lakoju all season. That's surprising given his geographic proximity to Fairfield.
I may be wrong, but I assume that means A) no one covers his school's games and thus access to box scores is limited, B) Stag fans have not seen him play more than a couple of times, thus we don't know much about him, or C) the results are out there and/or people have seen him and there has been little of note to report.
I guess I am a bit puzzled by this recruit. Was anyone else recruiting him? If so, who? How has he been doing this season? We get reports out of Texas, Massachusetts and New York about Segura, Nelson and Degnan, but we have virtually nothing about Lakoju and he is 20 miles away.
I hope he is the ultimate sleeper and comes in and sets the world on fire, but given the little we know about him (your assessment "I call Ami a project who may or may not make an impact down the road" is about all we have and does not exactly sing his praises)I have to wonder a bit.

Va., your points A and B are pretty much right on. Concerning point C, quite frankly in the first part of the year there were not great results to report, at least as far a hard numbers were concerned. But the interesting thing is that apparently in the last 3 games a lot of improvement has been noted. For instance I was indeed at the Saturday game (along with two other Stag fans). But also of note is that I heard from someone who had been at the PREVIOUS game who said he played very well. And finally, I believe the tweets noted above may have come just after his last game earlier this week. If nothing else this may suggest that he is learning and getting better.

Nice article about important game played by Jerome Segura this week in a win they needed to make the local playoffs (ref.-Houston Chronicle HS Sports sect.). He scored 25 points with a large majority of them in crunch time. A couple of quotes too, one from his coach about him, and one from himself.(JS, please link-thanks).
Nice article. Hope he tears it up as a Stag. Concerned his coach referred to him as a "good" player. I know I'm splitting hairs, but I would have liked him to use "great" as the adjective when talking about him. Did say one of the best he ever coached, but we shall see. Team is 16-14. Setting up next year's youth movement. Can't wait for 3 years from now!!!

For any of u stag fans that would like to get a glimpse of a future stag, the Pearl River H.S team with Kevin Deegnan , plays today at 2PM at Beacon NY. this is the first round of the NYS section 1 championship, Class A. Beacon NY is just east of the hudson river right off I-84. the matchup is #10 pearl river vs #7 beacon. Kevins team won their out bracket game yesterday by 30pts. However his team is not so good and it will be a struggle for them to move up.
Tyler Nelson scores 27 points with 3 three-pointers last night, and plays in championship game tonight
Nelson (10-for-10 from the line) hit six in a row late when BC High attempted to claw back in it. For the night, he was 7 of 12 from the field to lead all with 27 points.
Kevin Degnan's season comes to a close with a loss
Kevin Degnan, a 6-foot-8 senior signed to play next season at Fairfield University, scored 20 of his game-high 26 points in the first half for Pearl River (13-7). “We changed defenses where we overloaded his side to take him out of his game in the second half. He had no field goals in the third quarter,” said Powers, who lauded Nick DiNapoli, Burns and Romanelli for their defensive efforts on Degnan.

JS, need your help again (I apologize for my lack of knowlege in linking). Tyler won MVP of the tournament tonight as the Raiders defeated highly ranked Cambridge Ringe and Latin despite the fact he hurt his ankle in the first half, missed the third quarter, yet came back to play well in the fourth. ESPN (ref. Presidents Day Tournament Championship) there is a video of two correspondents discussing this game and the upcoming MIAA tournament.

Uh oh, now I found the article on the game (a couple of lines up from the video), and apparently the injury is a little more serious than the announcers made it sound like, so much so that it may keep him out of the final game of the regular season against rival Andover. But according to the timeline he basically only played the first quarter plus a couple minutes of the fourth, yet he still scored 14 points.

The injury actually occured late in the second, so he basically played half the game.
