Local article on KJ Rose in Binghamton's COURIER-JOURNAL about adjusting to college basketball life as a Stag:
While Louisville was the next-level example, Rose has discovered that collegiate ball is replete with difference-making athletes whose physical superiority make every outing a learning experience.
“Knowing when and when not to throw passes that are very close,” he said of the adjustment from high school. “Everybody in this league, everybody in D-I, is a lot faster, stronger and smarter. There are things you have to learn that you cannot do. There are times when you have to pull it out and try something new. There are things you cannot force like I did in high school.”....
That he has started since Day 1 is equal parts badge and responsibility — and neither does he intend to overlook or disregard.
“Of course that was a personal challenge of mine, to start as a freshman and lead this team,” he said. “But I wasn’t really focusing on that, I just wanted to get as good as I could, catch up as much as I could. I didn’t want to be the person holding the team back, I wanted to be the person to lead the team, and I was rewarded by being named a starter to help lead this team.”
Said Springer: “I’m not surprised because I talked to the coaches. They said they needed a guy who could get the ball up the court and into the shooters’ hands, get it where it needed to be. They were looking for a point guard, not a shooter.
"everyone on a basketball floor, except the referee, has to be a shooter. basketball # 101
Bingo!
Being a good shooter is one of the Job descriptions of a PG. I think his coach is referring to KJ’s style of play which even KJ described as a pass first mentality. But right now I feel KJ is more of a scorer rather than a shooter. He is shooting 47.5 from 2-point range, while his 3-point percentage is only 26% and FT% is 52%. Yes, he needs to improve his outside shooting. But his penetration ability to get to the Hoop and score is the area where he can do a lot of damage and is his strength. And while he is a GOOD finisher, I think he can become a GREAT finisher after he figures out what he needs to do against bigger and quicker opponents.
Just a side note on his assist to turnover ratio…… Since the Louisville Game, in his last 14 games he has a 1.4 assist to turnover ratio and he is averaging 3.8apg (That’s 7th best in the MAAC)

And finally with KJ the Stags have another player with a positive assist to turnover margin other than the (forever it seems pinned to the bench) Lincoln Davis. But another thing important about the position is the PG should become a vocal leader who can help position and influence decisions on the court without always looking to the coach for advice. I believe I have started to see some of this action in KJ, but realistically as a first year player it takes awhile for this trait to come out, especially when the team is struggling. But hopefully with just a modicum of success you will see a more confident KJ Rose in the last part of the season.
Really 74..."sucks". Nice talk about a kid who plays at your school..... Bob....the stats say he is getting better....assists up, turnovers down..that's what you want to see in a frosh pg, agree?
Rose has some strengths to build on.....he's strong, very good court vision, can penetrate and post up. He seems like a tough mature kid, and he's having the kind of in and out year you usually see in a frosh PG. Fix the foul shots and be more confident down the stretch and he's our leader.

Rose is a great kid. However, he is a mediocre point guard. He may improve a bit, but if he is our leader, we are in loads of trouble for years to come. We need a stud to bail this out. If we don't get one it's going to be a terrible era of Stag hoops...

50% sucks - KJ would agree. I guarantee he's working on this. Hopefully that work pays off.
I think the moderator needs to eliminate these postings as they are in clear violation of the site's guidelines. If you want to be critical, fine, but saying that a Fairfield student athlete "sucks" has no place on this board, or any other board.

I didn't read '74 posting to be a personal attack on him. 50% from the line does not cut it for a D1 point guard - the percentage sucks.
