Joey D was impressed by KJ, caught his comments on the ride home. Said that for a frosh to be playing 37 minutes is amazing. Said had to expect the turnovers because he has to do so much. Loved the big shots he made. "He is growing up before our eyes."
Still need help at the 2G.
Mo is just a rock. And Marcus seemed better. Lots of big boards by Dou. Would like to see Coleman become a junior before the year is out.
Watching the bench all night and the defensive effort, I think we can assume whatever is going on with Grennan and Davis that this is not a team in turmoil.
And Segura goes for 30 points and 9 assist tonight!!! Now that is something to really be excited about!!! Sorry, I can't get too excited about a win over Monmouth. #nextyear

The 2Gs were 2-16 on field goal attempts.
The 2 guard situation is still a merry-go-round. But we also need a backup PG and/or someone to help with the Ballhandling. The loss of Grennan, has put lot more pressure on Rose, and has him playing too many minutes, and hence his turnovers have gone up. I feel that we could getinto a mode of being Rose-centric, which would be similar to when we were Needham centric, in Needhams Frosh and Soph years.
After the 2-of-16 shooting by Jenkins/Johnston, I would like to see Chappell get some minutes. Its not like Jenkins/Johnston are providing a lot of Ballhandling support, Passing or dribbling help.

Love the hustle and play of Stevie J. who is not afraid of any situation, and at times can be a very good shooter from long range. And Justin at times can be dynamic as a scorer. But with them both having terrible shooting efforts last night, shouldn't there be at least a little time available on the floor for Doug Chappell, a kid who last I looked was shooting pretty well from the 3 point line? Just wondering?
I wasn't able to get to the game last night but a bad stat that I found was only 5 assists - 3 of them were on 3 pointers, the other two on jump shots. I'd have to disagree with DeSantis's report on KJ. He's a suspect shooter and isn't getting our bigs the ball. He's physically strong but I don't think he's quick enough in the long run to make us a competitive team.
Duke won the NCAA championship a few seasons ago with Jon Scheyer as their point guard. No scouting service ever listed Scheyer as quick. It is possible to be successful in college basketball without a quick point guard.
As others have mentioned, right now Rose is the best ballhandler we have. To me, point guard is Rose's position to keep for the remainder of this season. Next season, we'll see what type of point guard Segura is.
But there's still games left to play this year so Sydney needs to play a style that works best for Rose at the point.

It is what it is.
Our hopes are with an unrated HS senior. Sad. He may turn out to be great, but our staff doesn't have a great track record with guards at FU.
Rose's upside is solid MAAC guard - best case Ed Golden. That's nothing to sneeze at but he has a long way to go before he gets there. He's getting 30plus minutes a game not because he's earned it, but because there's no other option. His numbers are pedestrian.

Agreed. We're not talking about getting to the point of having a superstar at PG, we're talking about getting to an acceptable competence level. By way of comparison to Ed Golden, I don't think Eddy ever had 9 To's in a game. We could live with Rose's shooting if he could get the turnovers down. The number of unforced errors that lead to easy points for our opposition is the issue that needs to be corrected. This issue is compounded by the fact the that bad turnovers often happen with the game on the line.
I think Rose will improve the turnover numbers, I just hope he is able to improve them enough. After hearing last year that we had 5 studs coming in at guard and later discovering we instead had 5 good young players who are not quite ready to contribute, I have no reason to believe Segura is in fact a stud as we are being told. More likely he is a good young developing player just like the others.
Rose was a highly rated PG/SG out of NY State, and was recruited and offered by schools higher than the MAAC (St Bonnies and Hofstra). While Rose is not the level of Needham, Han, or Todd, he is probably the best Frosh PG we have brought in a while. His aggressiveness/penetration creates a lot of opportunites for us, and if he had a consistent 2G to play next to, his assists would be a lot higher and turnovers a lot lower. Amazingly, Every opposing team announcer that does our games, remarks what an impressive guard Rose is.
Potentially he is an All-MAAC type player.... but he has got to improve his shooting.
