Rose is a decent PG. Not a program changer. But imagine if his teammates could hit a couple more baskets. I think we would all be discussing KJ in a more positive light. So I cut him some slack and hope for the best next year when a lot more fire power is due to arrive.
This years CAA is equivalent at best to the MAAC. St Bonaventure wasn't recruiting him to start as a freshman.
Rose wasn't highly rated - he wasn't rated.
Compare Rose to the freshman PGs we've brought in in the last 10-12 year. Admittedly, not many, but the list includes Needham, Todd, and Han as guys that needed to step in right away and play 30plus. Rose is nowhere near the level of those three. SJ agrees - he tried to get a bunch of 5th year players to come in because our guards weren't ready/that good.
Rose isn't quick enough to get to the rim with the regularity to make up for his suspect shooting. Teams play off him, daring him to shoot. He can't breakdown a defense off the dribble. It has been mentioned a lot that FU needs to often adjust its defense because players get by him. His upside is limited by his lack of quickness. That's one thing that players can only marginally improve.

I agree with your comments
I think he can become an "opportunistic" scorer if he had other pieces around him. I see him becoming a game manager type pg who will average 8-10 pts.
I think that it is really unfortunate that we have no offensive threat from a big man. Malcolm hardly plays, can block shots and I guess Sidibe dominates him in practice. It is a big deficit that the captain is such a poor offensive player.
KJ Rose is a work in progress who was thrust into a starting role. Few freshman are physically in "college shape" as they have not had a full off season of a weight training program. That said, if Fairfield's shooters made their shots, Rose would get to the basket better than he does and he would have a ton of assists. IMO, he becomes a solid MAAC guard and there is no reason to bring in a third PG with Rose and Segura there.

Rose is averaging 7.5ppg as frosh, that would normally improve as he gets more experience; However, I think it more important for him to increase his assists. If we had consistent scorer at the 2G, Rose PPG would be less but his assists would be much higher. Rose can also post-up the oppositions PG which he has done on many occassions.... and scored or passed out of it.
Defenders might play off him on his outside shot, but he is not like Nickerson who was afraid to shoot. Rose's 3-point shooting is similar to MVS shootoing as a frosh (26%). I don't expect him to be an MVS type of shooter, but I also don't expect him to be a non-shooter like Nickerson..... something in between that large gap. The key thing is that he can run the Pick and Role/Pop effectively, because the opposition respects him enough to double team him of the pick. There is no doubt that Marcus and Mo have a lot more open 3's due to Rose.
Rose is proabably our best defensive guard, and does a great job of keeping himself between him and the ballhandler. He has also learned how to not use his hands and foul.
But what I feel the most impressive thing about Rose is that he is ALWAYS in the middle of every run that we have ..... either by his finishing off a penetration, or making a key pass to Marcus/Mo off penetration.
Being a consistent shooter is what will make him an All-MAAC player or not during his career.

KJ saves the game, after almost blowing it all my himself----but I will give him credit--look he is going to play and play many minutes, I'm pulling for him because if he plays well we have a good chance of winning---be interesting to see what SJ does when Segura comes--stay with KJ or does he come a backup like Wade shoUld have been for Needham--hope he does not play them a majority of minutes--I think as you know SJ is a poor Coach--I wish I was wrong, and if he does better I will be the first to admit it

Of course I mean that Wade and Needham should have hardly ever played together all those minutes--Wade was a poor Needham---I hope SJ does not screw up and move either Rose or Segura to the 2 like he did Needham---of course I have little confidence SJ will do the right thing
KJ , is getting better every game and will continue to improve. As Joe Desantis said on the radio he is playing 30 plus minutes a game and is doing a better job each game handling the pressure put on a point guard. I know what that means , joe goes on to say, because I played that position. Rose is blossoming with every game , joe says. Well that's enough of an endorsement for me! That does not mean KJ won't have his bad moments going forward, but at the end of the year when you judge his body of work for the entire season, he will prove out to be a very capable point guard now and into the future for the stags.

Good comments. I kind of see the issue with Rose a little differently. For me the primary issue with Rose is not his shooting but his turnovers. 9 versus Rider and 6 versus Monmouth are just too many. Many of these turnovers were really unforced and led to easy buckets for the other team. Even if his shooting numbers did not improve, if these turnovers could be eliminated we could win a lot more games.

PS - I do think much of the criticism of Rose is over the top. He's a freshman. He's being asked to learn a complicated offense quickly and play a ton of minutes. He isn't paired up with a highly experienced running mate. So the pressure is all on him. I am not down on Rose, he is still adjusting to the college game and will definitely get better. Hopefully he has the work ethic and drive needed to take make great strides in the off season, as our success is in his hands.
