SJ has a contract for the next 5 seasons and I believe that the University will give SJ plenty of time if not all of his contractual time to turn things around.
Fairfield Men's Basketball Coaches Tenure: Sydney Johnson - 2011-2019 (8 years) (46-50)(23-26) Ed Cooley - 2006-2011 (5 years) (92-69)(58-32) Tim O' Toole - 1998-2006 (8 years) (112-120) Paul Cormier - 1991-98 (7 years) (86-111) Mitch Buonaguro - 1985-91 (6 years) (72-103)(34-54)
However, Mitch Buonaguro lasted only 3 seasons of his contract as head coach before being let go by Siena: 2010-2011 - (13-18)(8-10) 7th place 2011-2012 - (14-17)(8-10) 6th place tie 2012-2013 - (8-24)( 4-14) 9th place
8 years guaranteed income regardless of performance!!! Kevin Lawlor, the new EVP and only experienced businessperson in this administration should be given immediate control of this mess. There really is no accountability mechanism built into this contract and or the people surrounding it. Ctghostman is right. There are too many "nice people" making decisions at Fairfield.
If he doesn't turn it around next year, he's gone. If it's bad next year, there will be 50 people at the arena. The Webster Bank Arena management will demand a change or no more games will be allowed...

The WBA needs Fairfield University as much as they need the WBA because there are no alternatives for either unless you count Alumni Hall and SHU Pioneeer Basketball as options. The University rents the WBA and though reduced Stag Basketball attendance effects management's concessions income the Stags will continue to play basketball there until they resign another 5 year rental contract.

It's a joke bro. Love your stats, but lighten up. I was having a bit of fun with this pathetic situation...
No problem as I just wasn't sure if you were serious. However, I don't think that the University will make any coaching changes anytime soon, especially after the contract extension.
I predicted us to have a losing record with 14-15 wins because we were so young..... and that was being optimistic and that we would have 1-2 "special" guards Guards like Needham, Han or Todd as part of our newcomers. That did not happen. Without those special guards I would say that almost all teams that lose their entire backcourt, end up with single digit wins.
5 wins is still below where we should have been as we lost 5 games in January where we had a lead or was tied in the 2nd half.
There are a lot of ways to look at this, but the overriding commonality is that we were a very good Team for the 4 years with Needham. And Even though I knew it would be difficult to win with inexperienced guards, I felt we could overcome that..... esspecially in a year that the MAAC was weak.
Most of the support for SJ staying seems to be contract related. That's sad. It's awfully easy to recruit against him knowing that the only reason he's staying is because FU won't eat his contract. He's a lame duck.
Lets hold on folks. This guy will have 1 losing season out of 3. Yes a nightmare losing season, but you gotta give him a shot.
Mitch got fired at Siena after 3 consecutive losing seasons.
We are all frustrated, most have criticisms of this coach, but, you gotta have more than one losing season to ask for his head, call him a lame duck or spend a bundle buying out a contract.
Hell, we could use that money for a bucket of paint and a roller for Alumni Hall.

Technically one losing season but he has been on a downward trend. Its best to fix that sooner than later. We're going to have two really bad losing season (not just losing seasons) in a row. After that, will he deserve a chance to go forward? Probably not. Therefore, the time is after this season. Losing a few million to SJ sucks but fixing the bad feeling around the program are worth much more than that.
He underperformed with 2 solid teams. 4th and 7th when you're projected 1/2 and 4th isn't good. JoeStag hoped for .500 and feeling good about the end of the season - he won't meet that expectation either. Segura is going to have to blow us away if we want mid pack next year. People want a weaker schedule to bump up the win total.

Of course there will be no Coaching change--we are stuck with this guy unless someone else wants him--but who in their right mind would take him? they would have to be smoking some serious weed---remember what I said I sincerely believe the Administration does not give a rats ass about our program--hence NO CHANGE my dear fellow alumni
Just for the record with 7 regular season games left in the season:
Sydney Johnson Fairfield Record 2011–12 (22–15)(12–6) T-3rd place CIT semifinal 2012–13 (19–16)(9–9) T-6th place 2013-14 (5-19)(2-11) 11th place 2014-15 ?
Sydney's place in the standings has dropped each year. The good news is, unless the MAAC expands next season, we will finish no worse than we did this season.
