EC left a loaded upperclassman team - SJs job was to not screw that up.
If I remember correctly, we beat Iona in the Semi's and they were an NCAA At-large team. And then lost by 4 in the finals...... and that was with an injured Needham. Certainly a disapointment, but certainly not as disapointing as losing to St Peters by 14pts in the semi's on our home floor the year before. And that team was loaded too.
Sydney coached better than Cooley in the MAAC Tourney and Big games, and they both shared Needham for 2 years, except that Needham was injured for 1 year. Don't see much of a difference
If its unfair to judge a coach after one year ..or two years or even three years .why is it so fair to judge the student athlete .after one year??.why do so many look to get rid if the player..just recruit over them right ?? How about you give kids a chance davis looked good at times..chappell looked good at times grennan looked good at times. Sydney looked ok at times.. God forbid.you teach these kids ...or is it you just keep getting new kids until the right ones make you the coach look good. Great system..
Most of those 9 freshman do not play much. As a team they are probably younger than us, but as far as their main lineup they play, they have 3 upperclassmen (Juniors) that play 100 mpg, and we have 1 senior that plays 30mpg.... It all depends how you count.
Long story short. Sydney has been an awful coach at Fairfield. 3 years ago there were 7000 people at the arena for a Fairfield-Providence game and the atmosphere was electric. Who built that- Cooley. Who won that game- Cooley. That was the beginning of the end of support from the community and the surrounding area. Ever since, this program has been dying a slow death, thanks to our coach and his inability to connect with the common fan. He belongs in the stuck-up IVY...

JWest - most fans support the players, and we want them to stay and have a chance to improve. there is no one on this roster that I feel negative about. In a different circumstance these kids would have had more time to adjust. This is a coaching issue not an issue with the players. I hope there is a happy resolution to this matter, I just don't see it happening.

Do we not get the picture? most of us on this Board are diehearted Stag fans--we disagree on many things, but seem fairly united from what I've read that SJ has totally flopped and needs to go---why can't the administration see this? As I have been saying the only logical/rational explanation is that they don't care what we think and don't care about FU's success in basketball---please comment--do you disagree with this?

FVA gave Sydney a hug after the Manhattan game. It is probably the most emotive I have ever seen FVA. He was as happy as if some alumnus walked up to his Bellarmine office and donated $25 million. Sydney isn't going anywhere any time soon, whether we like it or not. That Princeton connection is rock solid.

The Princeton connection has been mediocre. Many on the Alumni board & Trustees actually do know this.
