All the moaners and groaners, I hope that you will be there to express your opinions face to face and not behind the cloak of this board.
Agree wholeheartedly. All you folks who say there is no contact with the coach, here's your opportunity. Show up and be "chatty". Wish I could be there just to support this type of event.
Unfortunately I'll be on a plane, but whoever goes, please report back. My guess though is that they will not be encouraging questions. Someone may get a little insight from one on one conversation.

At the event at the stags club the assistant coaches were much more informative and did share their frank views privately with attendees. Their expectations of Marcus turned out to be accurate but there call on grennan was off. Either way the insight was more interesting than the coachspeak
The best infomation is usually obtained by talking 1-on-1 with the coaches in a interactive session. The most important questions would revolve around why we were not more successfull this year, and what have we done to improve in those areas.
I remember during pre-season practive that the consistent message from Sydney was that he was looking for one or two of our guards to "take the reins of the team" at the beginning of the season. I am wondering if he felt if that ever happened. Certainly Mo Barrow took over the reins of the team along with KJ, but I believe Sydney mentioned in a few pre-season articles that he was looking for Grennan's to make that happen. I beleive he said it was "his" time.
BTW, the Philly Big 5 coaches do a yearly discussion on the Monday after the NCAA Selection show. All coaches comment even though they do not make the Tournament. Its a huge success with 100's of fans in attendance at a Breakfast. Hopefully, this type of discussion can be a tradition for Fairfield, and try to expand the event to make it into a Fundraiser Breakfast for Coaches vs Cancer on the floor of the WBA. Include other speakers that can give their opinions like JoeyD, Terry O'Conner, The SHU and UB coach, and Bobby Valentine.
The 68 teams picked to compete in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament are revealed in the NCAA Basketball Championship Selection Show special live on CBS Sunday, March 16, at 6pm ET. Greg Gumbel hosts with analysts Clark Kellogg, Doug Gottlieb and Seth Davis. With the revelation of the brackets comes the requisite debate about which bubble teams were snubbed by the selection committee, which teams didn’t deserve a ticket to the dance and which No. 1 seed is the likeliest to fall victim to an underdog. Top teams hoping for a high seed include Florida, Wichita State, Villanova, Arizona, Louisville, Virginia, Duke and Michigan. Tournament action begins with the “First Four” March 18-19 on truTV. CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV combine to televise every tournament game through April 7.

My question for the coaches would be why did most of our recruits fall short? We were certainly involved with many more players. Did we settle too early? Why could we not clinch higher prospects?
I look at this as a positive. He can't very well bury his head in the sand after that abysmal season, can he? And besides, everybody would like him to be more like St. Edward Cooley and be more visible on campus. They should have a Q&A entitled Sydney What's Up. As in Yo Sydney what's up with Grennan and Davis? Hey Sydney, what's up with Malcolm? No question is out of bounds. No coach speak and the answers "no comment" and "next question" are not allowed.
I was there. A crowd of maybe 25-30 people. Totally informal, but all the coaches were there other than Tyson (out recruiting?), and they were totally willing to discuss anything about the team. Obviously they couldn't divulge any specific info about who they might be adding to the team, but it sounds like they are close to adding at least one or more guys. However this is nothing we didn't already know. What has come out however concerns the schedule for next year in which a lot is known already. For instance we will be hosting Belmont, Bucknell and Loyola at the arena in return games from this past season. Also, look for at least 2 and maybe 3 more games at home as part of some tournament, with the Stags being away at least once at a power conference school. Also, we are playing Northeastern in Boston (return from this year) and Albany away (to complete the "bracket buster" arrangement from the 2012-13 season). As far as Conn. 6, I thought for sure we would be playing Yale (game will be at Quinnipiac). But they seem to think it will either be Hartford or Central Conn. That only leaves room for about 2-3 others. Green Bay is NOT coming in. Nothing mentioned about Sacred Heart. Can't think of much else right now. Oh actually yes I can. One of the teams coming in as part of the tournament I believe will be Stephen F. Austin. Don't laugh, they are currently 31-2 and seeded 12th in the tournament and will be playing VCU.
I was not at the Selection show event, but I did pick up similar information on our schedule up at one of the Springfield Receptions. I did not hear Stephan F. Austin but I heard Sam Houston State.... they were only 23-10 and will bring back their All league backcourt. I also heard that Bobby Valentine was in favor of continuing the the series at the WBA. He must have liked all the attention he got from the Fairfield students. The financial part of the deal has to be worked out, but at least BobbyV has bought into the concept that it is an event, not just a game.

Very interesting discussion about the home schedule next year. While driving around SW Florida today in 84 degree weather (work related - not everybody's on vacation here), I heard an amazing statistic on the Colin Cowherd show. While running through the reasons some schools got a certain seed, he stated most schools load up on OOC teams and are a force at home. So no big deal. Winning on the road is important and quality wins are HUGE. For example, Duke winning at Syracuse in front of 35,000+ is noteworthy. Winning in front of a crowd of 4,000 hostiles is no big deal - "High school games draw more than that."
But then he said of the 345 or so D-1 basketball programs this past year, less than 20 (17 or 18, I think) had a losing record at home.
This program has hit rock bottom. We can't draw fans. We can't win at home or on the road. No signature win over a power conference school (a game we should have never won) Players who have forgot, in the end, it is a simple game, same at any level. Control the ball, take good shots, play defense, rebound. I am not sure if the coach is one who falls into either category of over coaching or under teaching. But he needs to begin the rebuilding by taking this team and turning it into a program. He has to recruit better players and have tangible results from player development. Instill a culture of confidence. Adapt his system to fit the players. And be smart about scheduling - next year sounds okay and our record does not warrant a big step up. Let's go dancing next year with a 20+ win season and let the experts complain about our strength of schedule. Happy to defend it - because we will have had to win the MAAC to get there!

In fairness to the school, we did beat Arizona State a couple of years ago.. We also beat Colorado State which is from the MWC which is kind of a power conference..
