Well as limited as our depth is, I feel like we've been in worst shape in the recent path. I think back at this roster:
Lincoln Davis Guard 6–3 170 Freshman Pittsburgh, PA K.J. Rose Guard 6–1 190 Freshman Binghamton, New York Steve Johnston Guard 6–0 170 Junior Stamford, Connecticut Doug Chappell Guard 6–2 175 Freshman Alexandria, Virginia Sean Grennan Guard 6–3 175 Junior Toms River, New Jersey
and think we probably have at least 3 guys on this team that are better than just about anyone on the 2013 roster.
Yeah well considering that team was 7-25 I certainly hope we have at least 3 guys that are better or else we are in trouble. I see you're only talking about guards and not the forwards from 2013-14, but obviously that crew (in retrospect) never was as good or efficient as Taj and Aidas have been in their time here. OTOH we did have a couple of decent forwards at that time, particularly Marcus Gilbert and Amadou in the infant stages of their careers, so I would put them up there as being pretty much equal with some of our current guys. Anyway if we're looking at a standard to match, surely the 13-14 team is not the one to set the bar of what the 2019-20 Stags hope to beat, right?
Yes, I was only focused on the guard discussion and of course a 7-25 record is not what we are hoping to match. Just trying to make the point that while we have little depth at guard, we do have the completely empty backcourt we had for 2 seasons. Some may recall that during those two seasons the backcourt was so devoid of scoring options that Marcus Gilbert was forced to play some minutes at the 2 in an effort to put 4 scorers on the floor at the same time.
I would venture to say that Marcus Gilbert, Coleman Johnson and Mo Barrow all came into that season more highly rated than anyone returning on this roster. But as we have seen in the MAAC, teams without solid guard play can look really bad, and certainly those two seasons where Fairfield had limited talent at guard clearly demonstrated you can't win with just a front court. My main point was simply to say that we will get a little more out of guards than those teams did, and if Aidas stays healthy and delivers what I believe he is capable of I would venture to say that this team will surprise in some ways. Still we lost a lot in the front court and will be relying on some inexperienced players to fill those voids. So there are a lot of question marks, but I am still very positive about next year in that I felt we needed a change and I am hopeful that this change will send the program into a more positive direction. Hopeful being the operative word in that sentence.....
Yes. Aidas and Taj are more than capable upperclassmen. Taj improved his game considerably by the end of the season. He is tough, durable and defends. He can handle pressure. We know Aidas can pass and run a team. I’m not worried about either. And maybe one or both will take a step up as drivers or scorers.
They’re both going to play a lot. No way around that. But not having a true 2G is bound to hurt.
I am not as worried about our front court. I think Vincent Eze will be pleasant surprise and expect Jesus to be more consistent. Not sure what to think about Omar until we know his health status. And Wasseff and KSP will have a chance to show what they can do. I think Chris Maidoh will push everyone.
From the Holy Cross Message Board by someone named "sos"...... in the last 20 hours(in Red): Even though Caleb Green would have to sit out a year, getting a Starting PG that is a double digit scorer would be a very good catch. On the other hand, it could just be inaccurate Message Board material.
It's unofficially official: Caleb to Fairfield. So will sos give his source ?..... A very good one.

So if that's true, I guess that's it as far as filling the final scholarship for the coming year. If nothing else it appears as though Jay is starting to put together a real strong foundation for many years to come, given who is already here and the fact that there are a lot of offers out there for 2020 and 2021 scholastic players. Hopefully we have enough to be more than decent this year, but overall I am very optimistic about where the program is headed!
And with Aidas gone that gives you two experienced PGs with Green and Taj as a senior. That’s solid.
Keep in mind that we're not sure if Aidas is done after this season. Yes, he will be a senior academically this coming year, but it will only be his 3rd year playing. It's never been clear what his status is basketball-wise.
Well getting Tshiefu from Bonaventure surely paved the way. Obviously he’s happy with the program. Two quality transfers on the roster for 20-21. And a high quality PG for two seasons Welcome Caleb!
This is a great pick-up since Caleb Green has been starting for 2 years and is a Double-Digit PG. Exactly what we need. He also gets a year to fine tune his game. Bring in more guards for next year.
Really impressed with how Jay Young & staff intelligently & methodically rebuilt this roster. I really like the overall moves. He is counting on Aidas/Taj/Calvin/Jesus/Landon/Wassef, but simultaneously putting pressure on them by recruiting a very athletic supporting cast.
I like our experienced new bigs and Allan Jean-Rose (an athletic guard/forward) and Chris Maidoh (athletic forward, could be a defensive terror/shot blocker etc).
Then, the Caleb Green PG transfer is icing on the cake. A proven PG who should just get better with a year and slot right in to help lead this team in 2020-21.

Green is a big get for sure. From a recruiting standpoint, Young is doing it the right way. Evaluate the talent, recruit a guy to push or replace the existing player. And he’s starting (continuing) that New England Prep School pipeline that is always talked about. Both Tshief and Caleb played NEPSAC at Proctor. Calvin and Jesus also from NEPSAC schools. We gotta take advantage of the access to these prep schools
Young's approach is obviously very different from Johnson's. Interesting how he has been able to, within a pretty short timeframe, add some solid players.
I don’t think we’d be interested in Green playing this season to give us three PGs. Really building for the next two years with Tshiefu and Caleb. But saw this.

Great point about the new players having the ability to push the incumbents to get better. Practices should be intense, and that can do nothing but make the team stronger, especially in the area of mental toughness.
