Getting the T was unnecessary and Kansas pretty much called off the horses 30 minutes in but the game is 40 minutes long and the steal/dunk was part of that 40.
Kansas tries to run out the clock in blowout win, but Monmouth player gets steal and dunks on the Jayhawks
There's an unwritten rule in basketball that, if a game is all but decided, garbage time dunks from either time are generally frowned upon. Stealing the ball late with a game in hand falls into that same category. George Papas decided to bypass both of those in a single play. You can applaud him for playing to the whistle -- and let's give him some slack, because playing in Allen Fieldhouse isn't something most players can ever do -- but the whole sequence is just a bad look. Was cutting the lead from 55 to 53 really worth it?
On Friday night as No. 5 Kansas was on its way to an easy 112-57 win over Monmouth, Hawks junior guard George Papas decided he wasn't going to let the game end. At least not with KU running out the clock. And so with 15 seconds left in the game he made his move, sneaking up on freshman Tristan Enaruna as he tried to run out the clock, stealing the ball, and going coast to coast for a breakaway dunk. To finish it off, he bowed up Enaruna, and appeared to mouth some words that typically land you in trouble. He was promptly hit with a technical as boos poured out from fans inside Allen Fieldhouse.
"That is uncalled for," said Monmouth coach King Rice after the game. "That is not what our program represents, and is not what our program stands for. You get beat by a better team, you shake their hand and you walk off to court and you take in the experience."

Rice sold the kid out. Every coach teaches play hard when you’re on the floor. I don’t like the T but do like the effort. Never give up. If you don’t like it campaign for a mercy rule.

You wouldn’t see them there anytime soon regardless of this. It probably takes 1 minute of Bill Self’s life unless he can come up with a one liner about it.

Maybe publicly he could have been kinder. However behind closed doors he had to tear into the kid for foolish behavior, apparently something that happened based on his public response. I understand what you are saying, you play hard to the end. But what you don't do, especially in that situation, is taunt, celebrate or brag, all of which tend to magnify the situation even more. And that in the end is why these negative actions canceled what might be construed as an attempt to give effort and never give up.
NC State 95 St. Francis Brooklyn 64 (Celen's line: 2 points, 4 rebounds in 16 minutes) Hartford 86 Gordon 79 Binghamton 76 Sacred Heart 72 (Pioneers waste a 15-0 run to start the game) Vermont 70 St. John's 68 Loyola Chicago 85 St. Joseph's 68 St. Bonaventure 80 Rutgers 74

- Manhattan over Albany to go 2-0. - Canisius over Bucknell to go 1-2
It wins like this that the MAAC has always been able to get, except for the last 2 years. We should also beat Loyola today . Last time we played them we beat them 2 years ago.

I never believed playing these power house teams at their home early in the season is a good idea. Some how coaches try to sell the experience of getting the “snot beat out of you” is a good experience . I do not believe that is the case. Let’s call it what it is. A money maker for the school getting pummeled. Hopefully FF will handle it differently at Maryland on Tuesday.

Yeah hopefully, but I wouldn't be too optimistic at this point. But since you mentioned it, yes it is about the $$$ for sure (important BTW), but also other things, recruiting being very much a part of it. And of course Fairfield is not on an island here. They ALL do it to some degree. The nature of the beast I guess.
I watched the Niagara game on ESPN+. Niagara does not appear to have much and is a definite PIG round team. Should be jocking around with the stags for the bottom of the MAAC. Manhattan playing Samford tonight on ESPN+, will be my first chance to see what coach Steve ( I have now graduated) Masiello puts on the floor. The jaspers very good center Pauly Paulicap avg 16 pts per game returns this season after not being able to play (medical) last season. Manhattan always tough on defense and rebounding.
