I think it’s probably prudent right now to delay Alumni Hall construction by one year. That’s a lot of momentum to stop. But the world is being upended and markets are a wreck with potentially much worse to come.
Please no! Destruction is not the type of close quarters work that would elevate the risk, particularly among able-bodied workmen with no health issues.
My niece works at the University and she is now working remotely from home. The students were on Spring Break last week. The University is transitioning to online classes beginning March 16-29 and strongly urged all students who are home for spring break to remain home and those returning from a spring break trip to travel home and not return to campus until March 29.
Senior week is scheduled for May 11-15 with Commencement on Saturday, May 16.

Well certainly the project shouldn't start when it was supposed to, and it won't BTW. But to say wait a whole year, no way, unless the experts in charge suggest it must be that way. The way I look at it with the obvious delay in getting started, the school should expect to now not be in the building until the 2022-23 season, and hopefully for ALL that season assuming there could be some sort of start to the work involved sometime later this summer. But no matter the time-line, another two years of basketball at the arena will most certainly be on tap I'm afraid.
How about the University actually letting Stag fans, alumni and donors know what's going on with the Convocation Center. How hard is it to do that with a simple "Convocation Construction Update"?

Cmon the university has more money than God. I want this job done before I die and I am sure that other oldtimers echo my sentiments. The university has elevated procrastination on this project to the level of an art form!
Multiple factors going on with this decision. Building products are constrained because of the China manufacturing shutdown. Whatever quantities of products are available will most certainly be more expensive , raising the cost of construction. Some of the major donors may be getting concerned about making their donations because of major losses in the market. However, at the same time the Federal Reserve is making the cost of the university borrowing money so incredibly cheap that banks mortgage rates are low.? Who knows what the impact will be?
There is no reason that Fairfield should be delaying progress on the new arena. However, the contractors, subcontractors and suppliers could have delays in the building process. A lot depends on how long this lasts.
They should be going gangbusters now with no one on campus. Those guys will all be in masks and protective gear removing the asbestos, they will be fine.
I received an email from the program director of the language department with some updates from the Dean on what is going on in our department and on campus. In general news, she mentioned that the Donnarumma renovation is on hold, as it is not considered mission critical. The university is going forward with building the new Media Center, which is in progress (in the old DSB building), but they are delaying building the new arena.
