I don't think the "run off" designation is always pejorative. I think sometimes the coach and player agree that the player is being "run off" to allow for immediate eligibility.
I'd like to see Wojcik eligible immediately. You'd start to have an interesting team.
If that was indeed the way things worked out the Stags would not only be more interesting, but also quite a bit better. His being eligible would solve what without him might appear to be a possible negative, that being not enough back-court depth, especially if there are any injuries that cause a key player or more to miss any time.

Jake Wojick played 30mpg as a Frosh and 11mpg as a Soph. Playing/Starting on a Richmond team in the A10 is quite impressive. Having his minutes cut as a soph looks to be due to some really good players on the current Richmond Roster
The NCAA created the problem about applying the “ waiver “ rule consistently once they allowed exceptions to the transfer rule. We have seen players granted immediate eligibility based on what appears to be sketchy basis ( ie: mono jones at Iona needed to be eligible immediately in order to take care of grandmother). Because of this inconsistency I am sure the NCAA Div 1 Council will approve the one time waiver to the transfer rule once brought for a vote. Then who knows whether or not the one time waiver will be good or bad for a low mid - major like FF. IMO I think it will be a negative as FF will lose more good talent then it will gain. For example if the Waiver rule was in place a few years ago I am confident Tyler Nelson does not stay for his senior year at FF. The allure of playing at a higher level (say ACC like Rich Kelly ) would be way stronger then being part of the sinking ship under SJ.These guys are very competitive and I am sure would like to prove their ability to compete at a higher level.

BTW, Blake Francis transferred from Wagner to Richmond 2 years ago. He was Wagner's leading scorer, and then move to Richmond's leading scorer. Probably the reason that Jake Wojick's minutes were cut as a soph.

We have to hope the the players experience at FU is a good one for basketball, academics and everything else. Knowing what they know now, I don’t think Jerry Johnson or Curtis Cobb would have left.

Certainly the OVERALL experience (not just the basketball) is the main thing. And a Fairfield degree should mean a lot, surely something that should be emphasized not only as a recruiting tool, but also reinforced once a kid is here. As far as JJ and Curtis, only they know if they may or may not have made the correct decision. Each case is different of course. And referring to Tyler and how his career played out, although he obviously could have played at a higher level, I'm pretty sure he would tell you that his overall experience at Fairfield was a positive one. I do agree though that if he would have been allowed to play immediately after transferring, maybe he would have made the jump. Of course I'm glad to know we'll never have to find out if that were true.

Hey everyone, just checking in to see if there are any final questions that you would like me to ask Tyler tomorrow during the show. I have a large list ready to go but if there is anything else that you would really like me to ask, I can toss it on the list.

I listened to the conversation on WVOF. Tyler was on for a full hour. He was honest and interesting with his thoughts not only about his time here at Fairfield, but also with his insights on some of the difficulties of trying to move up the ladder as a professional with so many talented performers competing for the same goal. I think it's great that he truly cares about how the program progresses moving forward, something evident by the fact that he has made a connection with Jay Young since the latter became the coach. The guys did a great job of asking the proper questions, so kudos to them. I would imagine that the interview will be put up in this space shortly. When it is, it's certainly worth listening to the whole thing.

Just finished listening. From Tyler's G-league carear, it seems that he has done about as well can be expected...... especially when the Up's and Down of playing time are very difficult. Looks like he might look at playing Overseas this year in addition to G-League. All depends on Covet.

The boys are on WVOF RIGHT NOW (Wed., 1 PM) talking Stag hoops. BTW next week at this same time Jay Young will be the guest. Good show. Mostly divided into two parts, the first being their ideas of how the freshmen will fit into the program and the second being the reaction to the 3-Man Weave prediction. They don't know anything more than we do but OTOH like us, they have read up and watched some video on the new players, so therefore they have 'educated' opinions (as opposed to knowing nothing about the subject). Fun to listen to though.

Nash, TY for the reminder on the show today. I thought it to be a good show . I would agree with the radio team who thinks the Stags can finish as a 5-6-7 team in the MAAC standings this upcoming season. If they can , JY would be on a similar path Of success as Ed Cooley was during his time as the stags coach. A path that all loyal long suffering stag fans deserve.
