Fabbri has a sweet sixteen as a mid major coach on her resume-that’s a bit more than safe. She’s an alum and a HOFer. It would also have weakened a rival. She checked ever box. CTD might turn out to be great-TSF already is.

According to published reports, Quinnipiac pays their coaches more than any MAAC school. Men's Coach Baker Dunleavy is making $765K and Tricia Sacca-Fabbri is making $536K. According to nonprofitlight.com. Joe Frager was making $227K.

I would guess that in both instances the coaches salary demands were more the Fairfield was willing to pay. I am sure a more moderate salary demand was part of the hire justification with the Jay Young hire particularly so because of the burden of having to pay Sid Johnson’s remaining contract salary. Even if TF was willing to take a pay cut it may be more then FU was willing to pay.

I don’t think Luke Murray was ever in the picture and couldn’t have gotten more than Jay earned. Trish Fabbri would be a different story. Of course she would have been a great get but I’m happy with the decision that was made.

Quite honestly, if the numbers posted here are close (JF $227, TF $536) even if they wanted to spend 100K more for TF, I can't imagine wanting any job so much to take a $200K+ salary cut. Circumstances often would dictate it like a spouse relocating to another region, or sick relative, etc. But for a job at the same level just 20 miles away, doesn't seem to make much sense. Of course if it were moving up to a power conference with a much higher upside down the road, sure, you might roll the dice. But at the FU level, it's going to take years just to break even. It just sounds to me as you say, it was beyond FU's budget to even consider it.

The real money at our level is the camps. An extra week or two might bring numbers a lot closer than one would think.

Trish Fabbri began her coaching career at Fairfield from 1991-1995 as an assistant to Dianne Nolan. Since taking over as the head coach at Quinnipiac in 1995, Fabbri has become the all-time winningest coach in Quinnipiac program history (482-323)(.598). Even if Fairfield was seriously interested, it would have to have had a salary offer of more than what Trish Fabbri is getting at Quinnipiac ($514,463) for her to make a lateral move in the MAAC. Despite being a Fairfield alumna,'91 and in the Stag HOF, Fabbri has a good life and career up in Hamden and I'm not sure if she would want to leave to coach at her alma mater against her own recruits and her own Bobcat program in the MAAC? I also can't see PS paying possibly more than double what Joe Frager was paid ($227,588). Fairfield and GD didn't hire Trish Fabbri in 2007 after Dianne Nolan left and Fabbri was an experienced head coach at the time with 12 years coaching at Quinnipiac. Hopefully Carly Thibault-DuDonis will be a success as the Stags' new head coach and a great hire? Time will tell.

From reliable sources 536 was/is an anomaly due to the sweet 16 and possibly some camps.
