Any discussion about the four grad transfers? I did see a photo with Cavanaugh and Hernangomez standing next to the new coach. Did Lopez-Senechal and Hakes attend the introduction? I realize that Lou is likely gone, but I still have hope -- perhaps naively -- that one, two or three of the others might return. Any insights would be appreciated.

Lou was at UConn and Hakes was making visits somewhere. I was told by two people that Cavanaugh was coming out of the portal today, and would be staying at FU. I spoke to Hernangomez, who when I asked, smiled and said she hadn't decided yet. However, I watched her during and after Coach Thibault spoke. She was the most enthusiastic of all the players, and was the 1st to stand and applause when Carly was finished. My gut is she is returning. I was also told today that one of Hakes' early visits was to Minnesota, and was being recruited by Thibault. Don't know what that means now.

Also there were the two young assistants, Macey Hollenshead & Erin Ryder. Neither Scinto or Jollon was. In addition, among the guests were Bob Huessler and New London Day columnist Mike DiMauro. I spoke to both and they each said they were there to support Thibault and they both raved about her as a coach and person. They have known her since she was a kid when they covered the CT Sun (Bob still broadcasts their games). It was great talking to Huessler, a great guy.

CTD, Hollenshead and Ryder is an awfully green staff (or start to it). Odds are, without LLSS, they will be in rebuild mode. They are behind in HS and transfer recruiting. I’d hope former HC is among the next hires.

I know her husband is also a women's basketball coach -- he spent the past three years as head man at DIII University of Wisconsin-River Falls. I wonder if he will be part of her staff.

Knowing very little about them, I hope not. Spouses on the staff is an awkward dynamic for them and the team. (And yes it worked somehow for Diane Nolan and Mark Breslin but this is a different time).

After reading those two excellent columns and listening to CTD’s remarks, I don’t doubt she will be just fine. She literally grew up at her Dad’s Sun practices and worked on great staffs. This may be a rebuild year with Rachel and Lou going, but that is to be expected. I don’t doubt she can recruit. Let’s hope she has great success and we are worrying about where she coaches next in a few years

Several Fairfield players are in the transfer portal, including Lou Lopez-Senechal, who averaged 19.6 points last season as a senior and has indicated she would like to use her final season of eligibility elsewhere. Lopez-Senechal is being recruited by UConn and is scheduled to visit the Storrs campus in the coming days. “She’s earned the right to go look at some of these cool schools,” Thibault-DuDonis said. “But she’s definitely open to seeing what we’re going to do here.”Blake DuDonis and Carly met while scouting players at an Ohio gym in 2014, while Blake was an assistant at Buffalo and Carly an assistant at Eastern Michigan. They married in 2017. Most recently head coach at Wisconsin-River Falls, he is expected to join the Fairfield staff as an assistant.www.ctinsider.com/sports/article/Carly-Thibault-DuDonis-introduced-as-Fairfield-17090932.php
