Barkley is a 6’8” class of ‘23 player for Putnam Science Academy.
Looking at the list of offers on verbalcommits, most of his offers are among the low to mid-major schools. However, Northwestern has offered him according to verbalcommits. I have to assume the other power conference teams on his tweet have only shown an interest so far.
From the tweets below, we had coaches at Avon Old Farms (where Matt Curtis will be playing this season) and at Northfield Mount Hermon the past few days.
Coach Johns was at the Bonner Prendie school in Pennsylvania for their open gym. I went through all the players listed in verbalcommits that we have offered and didn’t see anyone listed for this Drexel Hill, PA school. I don’t know if that means one of the Philadelphia area kids we have offered will be attending Bonner Prendie this school year or if we’ve offered someone that VC hasn’t listed yet or even something else entirely.
We also were at the open gym at Blair Academy in New Jersey.
Keep an eye on Cornelius Robinson, 6-6 Forward from Camden HS (one of the top programs in the country with DJ Wagner who is #1 for the class of 2023). We have offered a few guys on that team because they are very talented. But Cornelius is a grown man and is exactly what we are missing, a bruiser forward who can play inside and out. Reminds me of a more athletic Mo Barrow.
Hope his official visit goes well. From the videos, I’d have to agree that he has the size, build, and athleticism that we currently don’t have on the roster. Would be great to have him commit. Curtis and Robinson would be a great start to that recruiting class. Between players who might not use the extra year the NCAA is offering because they played during the Covid season and whoever might use the transfer portal to leave after this season; I think it’s important that our recruits be D1 ready when they arrive on campus. Robinson seems to have a D1 body from the videos.

I hope Robinson has a great visit and signs. Would really complement Johns Jr. And if he’s as talented as Mo Barrow, all the better. Mo played a decent amount his first year. And he had a complete game on offense by senior year. If Robinson can do what Mo did in a more athletic frame, then he’ll have a very nice career.

He’s very good friends with John’s Jr. He’s been on campus several times already too. He was at Monmouth and then Albany the last two weekends for official visits.
The way the roster shakes out for 2023-24 I see options for:
Zach Crisler Allen Jeane-Rose Chris Maidoh Brycen Goodine Caleb Fields
And Jake Wojick is done with eligibility. Between Transfers and players graduating. I see Curtis and probably 1 more 2023 recruit right now. In April I would imagine we have 2-3 more spots, that’s just an educated guess.
Googling to learn more about Bridgeport Prep has me a bit confused. Saw that they are not a NEPSAC school and that the players on the team attend Bridge Academy in Bridgeport. Anyone know what type of teams Bridgeport Prep plays and why the team has a different name from the school they’re attending. Wouldn’t be surprised if this is the Bridgeport Prep player our coach(es) were most interested in on their team.

I must admit that I also am confused a bit (a lot actually) about that program, one that was only started recently I think. However if you type in Recruit The Bronx and then follow that up with Bridgeport Prep, you will get some key info about them. And yes in looking at the description of a few players on their roster, the big guy you suggest above might very well be the player the Stags would be interested in.

"Bridgeport Prep is a member of the Power 5 AAA conference that features perineal National championship contenders Putnam Science Academy, Redemption Academy, Woodstock Academy, Hoosac School, Springfield Commonwealth Academy and Upper Room Christian School."
It looks like "Greg Thomas" is Bridgeport Prep's head coach. Here's his bio from when he coached the St. Luke's girls' team in 2014: "St. Luke's is pleased to announce that Greg Thomas has been appointed Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach and Program Director. He will be assisted by Jen Pokorney and Dave Parsons. A former standout at St. Joseph High School in Trumbull, who went on to earn Division II Collegiate All-American honors, Thomas comes to SLS with great experience and passion for the game. He honed his coaching skills over the years at Kolbe Cathedral and St. Joseph, and with coaches such as Rick Pitino and Stan van Gundy. In addition, Thomas co-founded a summer development program for the Greater Bridgeport area, which teaches life skills through physical training and skill development, and has worked with boys and girls of all ages in Fairfield County as a personal trainer and development coach. Thomas is also a representative for Northwestern Mutual, where he provides financial planning for families and small businesses."
He also coached the Kolbe Cathedral boys for a season after Chris Smith left.

^It’ll be interesting to see where he commits to. It’s good that he’s been on unofficial visits to our campus and that he’s friends with Johns. In case things don’t work out for him at the school he commits to, we’re known to him should he end up going through the transfer portal and we still have a need on our roster for his type of player.

His most recent visit was Monmouth but the week before as Albany. We will see.
I think the Coaches eyes with Jake being done and Zach probably graduating after this season they still have that one 2023 scholarship to fill. I would assume it's used on a 2023 Forward or Point Guard.
I don’t think Robinson would have played right away and maybe that was a factor. Either way, we need a PF and a PG, unless Leach stays healthy all season and shows he can play that position.
