So the second unit is Leach Long Johns Willis Maidoh
Crisler too. Pretty good right there.
Getting our rotation down to 8 or 9 is going to be difficult. I imagine it will change from game to game.
If we forge a strong identity on defense and don’t turn it over much then we’ll be really good.
BTW. So interesting that Jay hardly mentioned Willis in preseason comments. It’s not like his play yesterday took anyone on the staff by surprise. Just curious why he wasn’t talked up more. #secretweapon😊
I just think that’s Jay, he’s not an over sharer or a “pump up guy” like Cooley does for players. Look at Long last year, not a lot of info on him and he came in and was drilling 3s. I think it’s more of an early season lack of scouting that Jay tries to not disclose too much.

Willis shooting 3's was the most surprising thing. I thought he'd be strong on the boards and good around the rim (he had 3 calm finishes). His 5 3P attempts... I think that's an indication this is part of his game we can expect.
Outside of Cook, Maidoh, and probably AJR (but let's wait until we have a bigger sample size than 1 attempt) it looks like the entire team can shoot.
All sounds exciting/promising! Happy to hear about Fields. I just want to give a shout out to Stag76, Stag79, and Sgthulka who in the Transfer Portal Thread were early supporters of the Field signing. You all have the vision of scouts! Haha. Let's hope we stay healthy and keep improving. Think we are in for a fun year!
Twenty-one minutes of highlights from this game are available on youtube.
I went to youtube expecting to see 21 minutes of highlights and instead I saw an entire reshowing of yesterday’s BTN+ broadcast; with the commercials edited out. Don’t know if there’s also 21 minutes of highlights available on YouTube but anyone who wants to view yesterday’s exhibition game can view it on YouTube.

Tks stagz, but in my case it's clearly a blind squirrel/acorn thing!

So if Willis can shoot 3s at PF, finish inside and defend/rebound at just average of what you’d expect from someone with his size and athleticism, that’s some complement to Cook.

Terp, thanks for the heads up. For a great cause and it was great to watch this! Hard not to get pumped for the season. We have very good depth and a very balanced attack. Seems like we have multiple players that can stroke it from 3! Fields looks like he can handle and drive, too.
In those tight conference home games, we, as part of the returning Red Sea in Mahoney Arena, might help this team win the tight ones! Going to be an exciting season!
It’s an exhibition so I am trying not to put too much faith in what I saw but two quick observations. 1) Cook will dominate the MAAC this year. I don’t know what I was expecting from him this season but he looks like he has all the tools to justify the 1st team MAAC selection. 2) Willis should start. He was everywhere when he was in the lineup. If he can consistently hit a 3ptr, good luck matching up against that. Sure, there were other contributors (AJR for one) but Cook and Willis, to me, stood out. The Stags have depth this year, and should be toward the top of the conference when all is said and done.
Me to campion, I am taking a very reserved opinion based on the one exhibition game . No stag euphoria with me! Certainly more depth then in previous years and I think that depth will allow for higher scoring this year compared to previous JY teams. Putting points on the board has been a continual problem for the JY offensively challenge teams during his four year tenure. Perhaps this will change this year. Go Stags!
It is great that we appear to have depth, but we also need multiple guys to step up and play like All-MAAC players on a consistent basis.
Based on what I saw against Rutgers, I’d say Cook, Willis, and Fields are capable of playing like All-MAAC level players. To be determined if all 3 play at that level on a consistent basis. Not sure if that meets your criteria for multiple guys. If more are needed to get to multiple — I’d say Wojcik, Long, Johns Jr., and Goodine are possible candidates for playing at an All-MAAC level. I do agree that in addition to depth, there needs to be one or more go-to guys that will get us points down the stretch in a close game.

The more the better, but I'll like our chances for a good season if we have at least 3 players end up All-MAAC (1st - 3rd team).
