We were 16 minutes away from breaking the drought. It feels like if not now, then when…
Great season though and if you told me in October or even after 1-6 this is how it’d end, I’d have said you’re crazy. Hopefully something to build off of.
Very tough to swallow. I thought it was our year! It’s shocking how bad we shot. I feel like we could’ve made the game a lot easier in the second half. When we obviously weren’t shooting well, hold the ball for better baskets. Hard to lose Caleb. I think we have a good situation (appealing to recruits) with Coach, Arena, administrative commitment, etc..

After the first 7 games when our players were hurt , these last 3 games were the worst we played all year , yet we won 2 and almost the 3rd . Our great 3 point shooting left us the last 3 games ; We obviously need a shooting forward and a center if all our guards come back except Fields who I think his eligibility is over . John’s need to shoot better and work on his game for next year . We should get an NIT bid , we will find out tomorrow.
The one gut, who transferred with this team we could have used wax AJR. We had no answer for Washington tonight. Leach was guarding him: just not big and physical enough. I think AJR would have made a difference.

I’m gutted, but the first thing I thought about after the game was donating to the program. I don’t have much to give, but in the day and age of NIL, this season gave me hope. But we really need to raise funds to keep seasons like this alive. Can’t take it with ya when you die!
Missed their last 15 3Ps (I'll count the one at the end for misery's purpose). I know the announcer was harping on good/bad shots and all... but whenever the shots were being taken - you just have to make more. Fairfield didn't and we all wait until next year.🙄
* Oh - I ran the math. If you assume Fairfield are 35% 3P shooters on each shot (they shot 37% for the season), the chances of missing 14 in a row are 1 in 4167.
This really sucks, but I want to be the first to say it was great to finally have meaningful basketball back at Fairfield. Hope it continues.
1 in 4,167 is an amazing statistic as stated by your analysis. And in relation to that in thinking about this game, a couple of other kind of amazing things happened which suggests under normal circumstances would have made the Stags the victorious team. First of all, and this is REALLY amazing: the team committed a grand total of only 2 turnovers in the contest, something that surely must have set a program record for all the years of its existence. And with that as a foundation they managed to get off 21 more shots from the floor than the Peacocks. Again normalcy suggests that type of thing should have meant the outcome would have been different but sadly it wasn't. So yes it really does suck that it has to end this way.
Meaningful basketball has indeed returned however and I enjoyed the ride all winter. But you're right to wonder if it will continue given the nature of the changing landscape in the sport from year to year. Giving Casey the permanent job should help considering the miracle work he did this season under adverse conditions. But as we've seen in previous times, nothing is guaranteed here. So like you say, we can only hope it continues.
Just getting back home after being dropped off at the university. Despite the loss in a game we should have won, I committed during Lent to give up complaining (I failed tremendously at this today)and making a daily list of three things I’m grateful for. So in that spirit, I’ll recap based on my trip to AC.and end the night on this note.
1. By far, I am thankful I got to see and chat with our fearless leader, JoeStag, who donned the Fairfield red and was sporting some new glasses. It was great to cheer alongside him and reminded me of the old days at AHY. 2. The university organized a bus at no expense to fans (wish more people took advantage of this) and I got to meet some really great people that are part of the Fairfield community. Sometimes I take for granted what a special place this is. 3. The women’s team capped off a truly historic season with an unbelievable comeback and a storybook ending. I hope it’s not over and that they can win another game or two.
Win or loss, always proud to be a Stag!

Not the first time the Stags lost a game when they shot 3's poorly.
Drexel 6-21 Queens 6-23 New Hampshire 4-20 Quinnipiac 5-26 Marist 8-28 St Peters 5-25
As an aside, I think the probability of missing 14 in a row if you are a 35% shooter is .0024 (1 in 416, not 4,167).
That assumes that shots are independent of each other (not necessarily so if the guys are tensing up as the shots continue to miss).
Let's just say that it is very unlikely either way.
In addition, the probability of making 5 or fewer out of 25 would be about .08 (unlikely but not shocking).
All of that aside, for a season that started about as badly as any, the guys certainly turned it around. Not only did they win 22 games, they made the game entertaining again.
Thanks for a great season ... so far.
Hope the guys get to play in the NIT, though they would be up against Quinnipiac, and it might be unlikely that the MAAC would get two teams in. Here is last year's NIT bracket: www.ncaa.com/media/78495
EDIT: See note below.
The NCAA bought the NIT years ago for $56.5 million, but announced a significant change in how the tournament field is filled in 2024.
Gone are automatic NIT bids for teams that won their regular-season conference championships but lost their conference postseason tournament. In its place, the NCAA reached an agreement with the Power Six conferences to give bids to the NIT to the top two teams in each conference (based on NCAA Net rankings) that don't make the NCAA Tournament.
In other words, most mid-majors can probably forget about playing in the NIT.
A second option would be the CBI (College Basketball Invitational), which takes 16 teams. Fairfield has never played in this tourney. collegebasketballinvitational.com/
