Keep sticking up for Sydney Joe Stag. However, proof is in the pudding. We just had the worst year in Stag history. Don't think Cooley came close to that infutility. I'm sick of people bringing up the Cooley arguments, especially when it's apples to oranges. How is the perception of the program doing after 3 years under Sydney? That's all that matters and its a mess. No matter how hard you try to put your political spin on it, it's been a failure. Big results next year or its goodnight on the Sydney era...
Sydney is an enigma by his own choosing. How great would it be to hear about how he's planning to improve on this year, who he's looking forward to coming back, maybe a Cooley-like nudge as to what must be accomplished by certain players in the off-season, what we can expect to see that's different, new intensity, etc. ANYTHING! Cooley once had an entire article written about his sledgehammer award of the week. That type of thing builds interest.

Agreed. The silence is deafening. We need to hear something.
Jennings is this a bit hypocritical by talking about cheap shots then calling people names and correcting people's grammar like children?
And really, is grammar the issue here on a message board?
Grammar and spelling sometimes drive me crazy as well (like spelling Manhatten), but it happens regularly in forums like this and in text messaging. We are not expert typists and it goes with the territory.
I think you need to take a breath and have a nice warm weekend to chill out.

Jenningsbeach, good to see there is another rational person on this board. It is kind of a joke that people can spite all sorts of crap and stand behind a veil of anonymity. That is the price we pay, I think , for the modern age of the internet.
There has always been people on this board who have targeted certain players, coaches, or administrators. Taking cheap shots at them, hiding behind anonymity. We all do it, and it happens more often after a loss or a losing season. But some tend to make it an agenda, and taking it to the point if they repeat it often enough a player will transfer or someone would get fired. I have allowed more of this crap this year because there needed to be more lee-way in a losing or disapointing season.
As far as any info on Grennan. There is not any new info that I know. But I do think his situation is a little more complicated, because it might be harder for him to transfer to another Division I, as he would only have 1 year of eligibility, unless he got a waiver. Its unfortunate that players might not have their Scholarships renewed, but the combination of these 4 factors usually leads to it:
- Not producing results - Not Improving or showing the potential of other players - Not working as hard enough as other players - Team has a losing season
But the root cause of all of this is that last years group of guards did not get it done..... except for KJ and StevieJ.
Kudos to Joe Stag, Stags 1968 and jenningsbeach. I am with you.
Lots of smack talkers on the board. I especially like the posts that insult the administration for not building an arena on campus. if you knew anything about the university, you would understand that we don't have the funds for that given the other things that require investment, including the endowment (which helps fund essential financial aid), the lacrosse stadium, the recplex, the business school and the nursing school. These things are required to keep FU moving forward and competing in a very difficult environment for higher education. They are raising a lot of money to take the school to the next level and many of us are digging deep into our wallets to make that happen.
An arena would be nice, but we cant have it now, unless one of you is willing to stroke a big check. Are you willing to help in a big way.
The calls for Syd's firing now are off base too. I agree, we cant afford another year like the last. And it appears that he made some mistakes and mis-judged some talent, but no school would fire him now. Give him a chance. My money is on him for many reasons. If for some reason he does not get it done, the administration will seal with it accordingly.
Hope springs eternal. I root for our players, even after they transfer, because I think they show up to campus with the same goal of helping the team and university that we have in supporting them. I think we all love the school and are hoping for the best. I'm cautiously optimistic about this recruiting class, amadou getting over his sophomore slump, kj building on his solid freshman year, and the coaches getting more out of these guys.
By the way, talk of internal investigations, serious wrong doing by players, coaches etc. is non-sense and to suggest that you have inside info on that is baloney.
Also, the notion that Syd is supposed to win now or be fired, but, on the other hand, not be aggressive pushing guys out when they don't fit into his plan. Cant have it both ways. Tough for everyone, but the only way if you really want to win.
Hmmm. Lots of kissing up around here. It's ok to expect better results. Censorship just because you disagree would be sad. Thanks for allowing some to speak Joe. You are the man. The world is a better place when expectations are elevated...
There are very few on this board who are calling for an on campus arena, but no one can convince me that the University does not have the funds to refurbish Alumni Hall. The fact that the RecPlex project and the Alumni Hall project are separate tells you all you need to know about the lack of vision at the top of the University.
