It is embarrassing to come onto this site and see these comments. And some of you should check your facts before posting. Going back to other threads... We need Jamel Fields... Everyone failed to mention he averages 2.5 ppg this season. And now Sydney Johnson, does anyone know his credentials. To call him an inept basketball coach is absolutely ridiculous. Last time I checked nobody on this board coached in the ncaa tournament (almost beat kentucky), made it to the maac championship (and beat an iona team that nobody could beat that year), played overseas for 7 seasons, and was rated one of the best coaches under 40 a few seasons ago. He has struggled through two injury plaqued seasons, with a young team. If you don't like Fairfield basketball it's fine, but don't come on here and bash them and don't show up to games. The program doesn't need you.
Stagal, pretty sure we have the tiebreaker for #10 (whoopie!) based on the fact that we have a win over a higher ranked opponent in Manhattan. And since Marist has to play Rider on Sunday, I do think we will be a 10th seed. Don't think we can jump Niagara even with a victory as they have a win over a higher seed than we do. Hopefully we won't have to play Siena (very much a possibility), but for sanity sake I am praying for the 10th spot (and not the 11th) just so I don't have to get home from Albany at 3 in the morning!
Nash, doing some research on tiebreakers, game times, etc. I have very much the same opinion as you. We want the 10th seed and then should we be lucky enough to move on, would get Rider without their center in the quarters.

stag13, here's the link to Iona's 11-12 season which you claim was "an Iona team that nobody could beat that year"...
I see home losses to Manhattan and road losses to Loyola and Siena in the MAAC regular season. Thanks for reminding us that it's important to check our facts before posting!
I don't think many question Sydney's credentials, it's more our won-loss record the past two seasons and especially our play this season that leaves many very displeased. We're on the verge of being swept by both Canisius and Niagara this year --- both of which have less years of D1 experience on their rosters than us. Also, both of them were picked in the MAAC coaches preseason poll to finish below us this season. Here's the link to that poll since you obviously are a stickler for checking the facts.
As far as mentioning Fields ppg avg; I have to agree with you --- Chappell and Lincoln Davis are far superior players for our team than Fields would have been.
I also find the following quite puzzling: You're listed as having no posts on this board although I obviously quoted your post and I don't see stag13 on the member list for this board??
If Marist beats Rider, then Marist is the 10th seed and we are 11th seed..... because they have beat #2 Rider for Tie-breaker If Marist loses, then we are 10th seed.... because we have beat Manahattan for Tie-breaker
If Siena wins @monmouth, and St Peters loses to Iona, then Siena is 7th seed, SPU 8th seed All other scenarios.... then SPU is 7th seed, Siena is 8th seed
#8 vs. #9 at 5:00 pm #7 vs. #10 at 7:00 pm #6 vs. #11 at 9:00 pm

Unfortunately checking the facts leads to Stag Men's Basketball being in last place again at (7-22) (5-14) and being a PIG team again. Combined with last season's record setting losses, (7-25)(4-16) finish, last place and PIG loss, SJ has been (14-47)(9-30) still with at least two more games to play. Sadly, those facts are really what is "embarrassing" to most Stag fans here and elsewhere.

So it looks like our game vs Niagara means nothing for the seedings. The best scenario is for us to play in #7 vs #10 game at 7PM vs St Peters. For that to happen:
Marist needs to lose to Rider .......... and .......... (Siena loses @monmouth, OR SPU beats Iona)

Interesting dynamic for the Marist-Rider game. Rider is locked in as a #2 seed, so from the seedings standpoint there is more incentive for Marist going into the game. But I'm guessing it'll be Senior Day for Rider and usually home teams play better basketball on their Senior Day. Heck, we even found a way to win on our Senior Day.
Stag 13, don't talk to us about history. If you have seen the last 2 years, how could you even approach saying that Sydney is a competent coach. He has no feel for talent and recruiting and his game coaching is atrocious. His successes have been with Cooley's recruits. Your bullshit about a young team and injuries is tiresome. Open your eyes and see what is happening. Sydney has taken this program from being up and coming to one of the worst programs in D1. P.S I have gone to more games than you can count to...

Rave, well said. There's something to be said about Stags13 when they post a bullshit response/reprimand (probably a coach or someone who cannot see the disaster of the season in front of them) but then they delete their account. Very interesting that they are choosing to point fingers at fans but not at who is actually causing the problem (aka SJ).

Stag13, the team is young , there are injuries , excuses, excuses! The guy can coach, think about what he almost did, excuses., excuses ! Pls stop. The results are not there. Period! When resources are provided results are expected. Finishing at the bottom of a weak MAAC is not a good result.
