I do not think that the school can announce that a player is transferring, unless the Player agrees that he is transferring. The school might not renew a players scholarship, but they cannot force a player to transfer out of the school...... that is a players decision.
Okay, same point from me with different wording. Wouldn't we want to announce who will be given a release from his scholarship as soon as possible so potential recruits could see where there'll be opportunities for playing time next year?
I did notice that Quinnipiac worded their announcement that Kasim Chandler had been granted his release.
We already have 2 open scholarships..... that were announced. If we fill those 2 scholarships, then I would agree that we would be wise to announce it..... if it is a DEFINITE. Bottom line, I do not know what the player has been told...... it could be different for each player. Who knows what might happen.... Malcolm might get offered a great job that pays $100,000, or look to transfer as a 5th year senior to a school that has a masters program to his liking. Or a player might be told that we are looking to upgrade his position with a new recruit/transfer...... and if that happens then our players scholarship would not be renewed. I remember Cooley doing that.
Decisions to renew or not renew a scholarship do not need to be made until June 30th,
According to this tweet, Cobb is coming to Fairfield:
Adam Finkelstein @adamfinkelstein · 33s33 seconds ago Fairfield gets a late steal with @wma_Basketball & @rivalsnation G Curtis Cobb. Smooth scorer will make immediate impact.
And after you get the big man, find out what Jeff Ruland is doing and see if he wants to join the staff. Great big man coach who I'm hearing wants back in.

Sobro - good thought. We need a big man coach and he fits the profile of someone that would take a chance in this situation. Lives locally, knows the conference, its certainly a demographic match. I don't know much about Ruland as a coach or fellow staff member, that is a separate question. His time with Iona certainly had its ups and downs....
The recruitment of a 3 star player like Cobb, ranked in the 40s for his position, should have a positive effect on whomever else we are targeting. I'd love to see a polished PG 5th year to run the show with Rome backing up. I'd like a big to start filling the many spots we will have open next year. Maybe Lacey James. And why not get a SF as heir apparent to Marcus.
Speaking of Marcus, we will be playing him as SF in a three guard offense next year. We will need everyone to rebound.

That's exactly what we need...a big man coach. Can't see Ruland on Sydney's staff though. Polar opposites.

Who do you see playing PG, SG and SF for the Stags next year based on the current roster?
Nelson and Cobb are both SG's but I think you might need to have one of them play PG to keep the best player on the floor. Do you think that is the plan?

One of the game stories from JoeStag said Curtis played some PG. But it doesn't seem like a strength. I think we will see three guards with Marcus at a hybrid SF/PF. We rotate big men based on matchups. Lots of competition for PT up front and we are likely to bring in at least one more player, in my opinion.
One more prep school PG to consider is 6'2 Troy McLaughlin from Choate Rosemary. Played his HS ball at Old Tappan. Basketball family. Brother is at Bryant, cousin is on Fairfield's women's team. A coach's son. Take the time.
