RF, Sports-reference says Needham averaged 16.9 per 40 minutes. And Jordan's numbers were left out for his first two seasons regarding this stat. But other two years listed were in the neighborhood of about 10PPG (per 40).
Nashville, you are correct. For whatever reason the points per 40 calculation on sports reference is incorrect, it does not include the numbers from Jordan's Freshman and sophomore years.
It bothers me when I post any information that is incorrect, I try to use this site as I have generally found the information to be accurate. In this case it is not. Regardless of that one statistic however, the shooting percentage numbers are correct and they still show Jordan's percentages to be better than Needhams. This is not a statement that Jordan was a better player. It is simply evidence that Jordan was in fact a solid offensive player.
The point about Jordan was simply to dispute the allegation that Jordan was a weak player. While only a back-up for Cooley, Jordan was better than any of Johnson's guard recruits. Perhaps I can post a comparison of Jordan's numbers to the SJ guard recruits. I'm sure if I do, I will hear that Rose is a better player because he has more "guard like skills" Shooting numbers apparently don't matter.
Since Joe Stag continues to dodge this question Nashville let me ask you. Do you feel Johnson has recruited any guards, other than, Tyler Nelson that are better than Cooley's back-up players Jamal Fields and Lyndon Jordan? Is so can you support your thinking with some data? (turnovers, assists, etc.)

Jordan and Fields are backup players along with Crawford, Jamal Turner, Devin Johnson and Keegan Hyland. They all underperfomed They are basically the same level as all the guards that Sydney has recruited, except for Tyler Nelson, Segura and hopefully Curtis Cobb. Focusing on backups is not important.
As I posted many times, Needham has been the only All MAAC Guard that we have recruited in 9 years. That is the mosted telling stat.... not Jordan's ability to stand in the corner and do nothing, or Grennan being let go by 3 teams/coaches. Wade and Nickerson had good skills and the ability to be All-MAAC, so they were good recruits and Nelson, Segura and Cobb have the potential to be All MAAC and they are TBD. Focusing on getting good guards is what is important to win a Championship.

Joe it was a simple question. Besides Tyler Nelson provide the names of Sydney guard recruits you feel are better than Fields and Jordan. Its sounds like your answer is Segura and a guy that hasn't set foot on campus. So of the 7 guards that have been recruited by Johnson and played prior to this year you feel Segura is better than Jordan and Fields and the rest of his guard recruits are not. Is that your view?

Well I really don't want to get in the way of a nice spirited (fun) argument between friends, but since you asked RF I will say that I kind of feel the same way as JS here. As far as I am concerned you could throw Jordan, Fields, Turner, Johnson, Crawford, Hyland, etc. (Cooley guys) in a pot with all the guards that Sydney has brought in (other than Nelson for sure and hopefully Cobb and MAYBE Segura)and you really wouldn't get much difference in productive performance from any of them. They are all (or have been) basically second string performers at best. The real important thing is we need to do much better in this area. That is what I am more concerned about rather than what has happened in the past. I guess I should also say that (at this time), Nolan, TBD.

Thanks Nashville. I like to get honest realistic views from other posters, as I do value the views others share even when I disagree with them. I take seriously your opinions on Degnan, even though I have no evidence to support them, because you have seen him play more than just about anyone else other than his Dad.
I won't pick apart your comments on the guards. I think Cooley's back-up's were better than most of SJ's recruits but if they are as you suggest about the same it supports the main point that most of SJ's recruits would likely have only been back-ups on Cooley's teams. That simply point, is one I think only few would take exception to.
WMA Basketball @wma_Basketball Apr 13 Thursday afternoon at 3:30pm Curtis Cobb will sign his National Letter of Intent and become a Fairfield Stag! It will be a great day!

The presidential candidates have nothing on Joe Stag!
The measuring stick that I am using for Curtis Cobb is that he is a better 3G than Marcus..... not necessarily a better player than Marcus, but better than Marcus, so that it forces us to go with a multi-talented, guard like player at the the 3. And then Marcus splits time at the PF and SF position.
Cobb looks like he has good size.
BTW, I saw a full game video of Jerry Johnson where he played some PG. It seemed like his coach was frustrated with the starting PG not passing the ball, and switched JJ to the point. Looked like JJ knew what he needed to do, and setup the other scorers. I am unsure how JJ fits in right now, but the 3 guys from Mass (Tyler, Cobb and JJ) could have interchangeable roles
Got to keep these new guys happy with solid minutes. If we open up the offense and let some of the players' instincts show instead of Syd's precise deliberate execution (looking for a perfect play), we should be able to play at a faster pace and have fresh guards to replace those that tire. Lots of skilled guards playing at a fast pace would be a nightmare and wear down opponents.
