Good luck to him. I wish we had used his frame. I always had hopes for his broad shoulders to carve out space and help us on the boards.
On a semi-related note, I still don't believe you can win consistently unless you have a legitimate rotation. I'm very hopeful after last year, but Sydney needs to make tough decisions. The reality is that he is unlikely to keep everyone happy. If he chooses the top 8, 9, or 10 to play and 11-13 on scholarship decide to transfer because they want to play more then so be it. The only major issue is if he doesn't make the right decisions in terms of the rotation.
I like Degnan's game, but if he didn't fit our rotation next year and he saw the writing on the wall then transferring makes sense. I hope he'll go somewhere he can play the 4 and do well.

Thought he always seemed to get to the right spot without the ball. Can see why he didn't want to play the 5. Face the basket 4. It does say something about the talent level of the program that we have a transfer who is attracting strong interest from other D1 schools. With Matija, JK, and hopefully another big man recruit, he probably was going to have a tough time getting minutes here.

Yes minutes are competitive at the 4/5. And I wonder if Kevin's transfer is an indication that we have a Euro big nearly in the fold.
This could be one of those moves that works out for both Degnan and Fairfield. He could find the role/minutes he's looking for (and get to "red shirt" a year) - while I'd think Fairfield just became a more attractive location for a 4/5 recruit or two.
Wish Kevin the best. Hope he finds a home where he plays regularly and is happy. Nice player, good kid and deserves some playing time somewhere in D1.
Always preferred Kevin over King, but the stats were pretty close in all areas (Scoring avg., Rebounding avg., Asst. Turn.)
I guess my feelings were strictly subjective. The answer may be in who was better on the defensive end. I remember some frustration watching both of them on that end of the court.
"I just thought it was the best decision for me and my family," said Degnan, who will have two years of eligibility remaining. "I feel like by going somewhere else I can find a coach who has a different role for me."
"I didn't like how I was used when I got in," he said. "They had me at the '5' a lot and I'm not a '5.' That's not my best position and I want to find somewhere where I can play my actual position."
Degnan committed to Fairfield the August before his senior year and chose the school over Fordham, Quinnipiac, Vermont and Siena. He said schools that recruited him previously are among those who have already contacted him.
I think Degnan was both a 4/5. And because of that, I thought he would be our top reserve this year at both PF/C. IMO, that role is like a starting position and usually gets 20-25mpg. I kinda disagree with Degnan that he considers himself better as a 4, because his Passing, Ballhandling, and overall speed were not his strength. If he is basing his transfer on being strictly as PF, then I feel he has made a mistake. I think he could be a very good Center in the MAAC, and I feel he had skills similar to Peter Debisschop. I expected that Degnan would have improved his back-to-the-basket skills in his first 2 years. He did not.
Good luck to him. But if we did not want him to transfer, then we should not allow him to go to any MAAC School. If we are OK with his transfer, then we should not have any restrictions on which school he should go to.

Yeah a Euro or someone else maybe? Also, is it possible (just asking) if maybe Amadou will be back next year? He of course has another year of eligibility remaining. If so I hope he would have his health and his game in good shape or it wouldn't make sense IMO. But back to Kevin, although we only found out about this yesterday, I have been told this has been in the works for a while, so yes, maybe he did indeed see that he was going to have a tough time getting minutes. Of course it is my opinion that if he was featured a lot more this past year (maybe if King wasn't here) he would have been a main player with this team. But that is "spilt milk" at this present time. We move on, right? BTW I have heard that he is receiving interest from MANY eastern mid-major schools including the AE, NEC, Patriot as well as the MAAC. Even at least one Colonial League school. So for his sake I hope he does his homework and picks the right one. He has a lot to give to the right team I would think.
Sorry to see Kevin go also. As I have said before the constant turnover of players each year cannot be good. Transfers seem to be the way of the world these days. His transfer weakens the depth of the bench , that always seems to be needed because of the length of the season and injury. Unlike many of the posters on this board I believed that Kevin is a good reserve but not destined to be a starter. I saw him play in HS at least five times and never bought all the hype about him being an "A-10" type player that FU recruited. He certainly worked very hard during last summer to loose weight and to get in shape , so I sincerely hope that work pays off with an offer from a school that he feels is a better fit for him.

This is what I feared.... On the cusp of having a real contender and then boom -- a transfer or two. More than ever Jonathan has to learn how to play without the foul a minute style and Matija needs to hone his inside moves. We are just an injury away from disaster and my expectations took a blow.
We really need a great big man and everyday the pool gets smaller. If the coaches fail on finding someone as good as Degnan or better, then this transfer will loom as a potential major step backwards.
So far some of these current Fairfield prospects don't fit the bill as a legit center.
I like Degnan a lot, but he got recruited over. Milin and Kasibabu were solidly ahead of him, and any big that comes in would likely be, as well. I hope he succeeds wherever he goes. Now, bring in a shot blocking, rebounding center, one of those WF to replace Gilbert, and use the third on the best remaining talent, transfer or otherwise.
We certainly took a hit with Degnan transferring. He was going to be a Junior, and he seemed to be the type of player that needed more time to emerge as a player…… that is how some Big Man are. He would have been ready day 1 to contribute next year. I hope that we get a Big Man recruit can come in and be better than Degnan day 1. That would be great, but its a lot to expect. I don't know if a Deng Gai or Robbie Thomson as a frosh, would have been better than Degnan as a Junior.
But I agree… a shot blocking/rebounding center, 6-6 Bains from Canada, and either Amadou or a Transfer.
