I'm surprised Smith does not go as well -- both have potential to be offensive forces -- SJ 's use of both very confusing -- but he's the Coach until the higher ups decide otherwise
There is more to the game than offense. Though we won 19 games this season, we were actually outscored by our opponents.
Part of that was the defense was nowhere near as strong as it was in the Cooley era. Part of that was relatively weak rebounding. Nothing against Smith and Degnan, but neither is a defensive or rebounding force. Both are front court players who like to shoot 3 pointers.
Obviously our offense is geared towards the 3 pointer, but we need some players who can provide a stronger defensive presence in our front court.
I wish Degnan well but I'd love to see the coaches pull in someone to replace him who has Deng Gai-like defensive skills and Darren Phillip-like rebounding skills.

I consider Degnan a loss. I think he would have contributed to the program this year. I hope that an immediate impact player is going to sign; time will tell.
I posted many times over the season that King was not a good signing and the decision to play King ahead of Degnan was a mistake. In my view King was no better than Degnan, in fact he was not as strong. My take, is that if Degnan had gotten all of kings minutes, we wouldn't be losing him right now, and he would have been more ready to contribute to the team this season. So I feel this is a case of a bad signing and misuse of personnel. If we get an addition to the program that is better than Degnan then there is probably little harm. But if we don't we really have to look at the king signing and playing decision as having a negative impact on the team for the next two seasons.

Couldn't have said it any better myself. And as you know, I have been saying basically the same thing from time to time over the last year. I do feel however that we will cover his loss with the proper additions to the team that are needed based on the trust factor of the past year or so of bringing in the right players. Time will tell of course. BTW if I'm not mistaken RF, hasn't it been you that has been saying all along that Amadou will be back on the team next season? Could that be something that happens and if so would that be a good "trade" for Kevin? Just asking. I also wonder if it is possible that Kevin's ultimate decision might have been affected by this possibility?
Don't understand the idea that Amadou is the savior. Had a decent freshman year but I remember a broadcaster laughing at the fact that he was on the all-rookie team averaging 10 points a game. The other announcer said that his award was based on potential. Amadou can rebound but that is about it. Doesn't score. Flat out cannot make a layup. Has anyone noticed that he hasn't played significant minutes in 3 YEARS!

Bring back Malcolm and let him play play play -- I am confident he could be a force in this league but u most give him big time minutes -- not a few minutes here and there

Tough to give a player major time when he commits a foul every two minutes. This is the same problem that Coleman Johnson had and that Kasibabu seems to have.

I don't think Amadou is the savior but if you could get 10-12 good minutes from him - don't think his body will hold up for a season doing more - he's a good stop gap.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that he is a savior. And yes he is not going to be a big scorer. OTOH as you say, he can rebound and do it very well, something the Stags need badly. Adds toughness and a backup for Jonathan because as you say (in your other post) the big freshman got in foul trouble a lot this past year. And also, although it might seem like 3 years of missing significant minutes, actually it was the middle of last season (2014-15) when he had to shut it down because of various physical problems. Therefore if (big if) his health is good, I certainly think he would have a lot to add not only in play, but also leadership. So I would be for him coming back UNLESS we could sign a (clearly) more talented player with the scholarship that he would get.
Sorry to see this happen, although I can't say that we didn't see it coming. I wish Kevin the best of luck as well as the program he ends up with. And if he would be happier at another MAAC school, he should be able to play there - isn't it all about being happy and having a great collegiate experience?
I wish the discussion with Amadou and/or Malcolm would stop. Neither one would probably contribute what Jonathan and Milan will contribute for the next three years. We need to bring in a long term solution, not just a band-aid.

Stags will obviously have other options at 4/5. We just don't know who those are, yet... so - it's definitely disconcerting to lose Degnan. At the very least, we had a feel for his floor and his possible contributions. I think we can withhold judgement, until we know the final roster.
If we were to swap out skills... I'd gladly take an equally talented defender/rebounder vs. Degnan's offensive skills, which are very similar (if not as diverse) as Milin. I really don't think it's unusual for someone that projects as the 7th or 8th best player on a team to transfer after their soph. season. As others have said, it's a good sign that this guy is getting good D1 interest, rather than heading off to D2.

I think anyone expecting a Sidibe comeback is going to be disappointed. I think anyone expecting a Malcolm Gilbert comeback is living in a dream world.
