We do have the legit advantage of proximity to his hometown and mom. UConn is past its prime; St. Johns is not in a great or convenient location. Sounds like the dad could have influence here. He has to be invited to campus even if he does it completely on his own; it is certainly worth it with the campus being so close.
Sacred Heart always has some really good players. Syd and crew need to start paying attention to Waterbury, Hartford...so close to Fairfield. We used to get our fair share of local talent. The dream is an NCAA appearance with Alvarez and Heron which would open up more recruiting channels.
His brother (half brother?) played at Sacred Heart Waterbury last year. Had a tremendous game against ND. Offer a package deal.
If we can offer his half brother too, and because we are the closest and most convenient school ...... we certainly have a reason for Mustapha to come to Fairfield. It will all be about "Family" if The Stags are going to win out on this one.
It is good to see Sydney and the staff shooting very high for Mustapha. Fairfield is always the underdog in these situations, but if he leaves St. John's today without committing, there may be a chance. This type of recruit will bring more of the local basketball fans down to Harbor Yard.

How about Meeting with Sydney, Tom and Mitch. Need to throw the whole team at this. This is the kind of player that legitimizes a program.
I don't know if this kid realizes the kind of numbers he would put up in the MAAC. He'd be a force. If he plans to go pro next year anyway, why not break the NCAA single season scoring record against MAAC level competition? Why not have a 75% field goal percentage on your resume as you enter the draft? He could fill at a stat sheet at Fairfield.
I think though ultimately this isn't about basketball. Its about how sick is his mom and how important is it to be really close. If he needs to be close, Fairfield is the best option. If he doesn't really need to be close, it will likely be BC or SJU .
I think you have to trust Fairfield's approach on this.
Team is coming off a very positive signing in Alvarez and I expect they have a plan to put their best foot forward.
reindeerfan along the lines of what you're saying... Fairfield is different than the other schools and if certain criteria are most important, I think there is a good chance. If not, it will probably be one of the other schools.
Unless his performance were to change dramatically (and that could happen anywhere), I don't think playing at BC... or SJ... or Fairfield... matters a whole lot to his future professional prospects. It's 2018 - scouts aren't missing a player, just because he's at a mid-major.

Maybe this is not such a long shot. If he is interested in a lesser league, why not Quinnipiac, which is closer to his mom, or Iona which has a much better history of making the tournament. Both also MAAC teams. There must be something about Fairfield that has him interested.
