Scholarship numbers can be moved around - especially for a guy like him. Heron said out of High School that UConn "was the last place where he wanted to play."

Maybe it's because of the momentum of the Neftali signing, but is anybody else feeling strangely optimistic about this? I legitimately think there's a chance.

Yes. BC is on the rise but still an ACC bottom feeder. The fact that Q isn’t in the mix is a kudo to Fairfield. I do like our odds. Close the deal.

Well no doubt we’re in the mix. Let’s hope Tyson can bring him home.
I know BC has a big loss in Robinson to the NBA. Bowman did return and they have another guy appealing for a 6th year of eligibility. I think a .500 ACC record (with Heron) is still a tough proposition (life in the ACC) - but they are not the hot garbage they were 2, 3, and 4 years ago... Although, to be fair, the BC team the Stags beat was essentially the same one that made the NIT, last year... just with another year of experience under its belt.
Wonder if a player has ever received a hardship waiver by transferring not to their home state? SJU is what, 1.5-2 hours from Waterbury and $10 in tolls each way.
Under the old NCAA rule, many players did. Since the rule change in 2015, it is almost impossible to get a hardship waiver to play immediately unless you were abused by a coach or something similar. The rule adopted in 2015 requires players with ill relatives etc to sit out a year but they are given an extra year to complete their four years of play. Unless Heron has a compelling reason to transfer that has nothing to do with his mother's health, it is unlikely he will be allowed to play immediately.
Well I am not as knowledgable about this topic as some others. Does anyone think there is any chance that if Mustapha signed with Fairfield he could play this season? I have to defer to Bison 137 and others on this question I wonder if anyone can make the case he would be eligible this year.
....Adam Zagoria reported earlier this morning that Auburn transfer Mustapha Heron will visit Boston College this weekend for a visit, provided he does not commit to St. Johns prior to this weekend.
Heron is the nation's top available transfer, as he is expected to be available to play immediately due to a hardship waiver.
The 6-foot-5, 218 pound guard is transferring closer to home because his mother is ill, and is expected to consider Boston College along with Connecticut and St. John's. He considered going pro, but decided to return to school and withdraw from the NBA Draft. While most transfers typically have to sit for a year, Heron is expected to get a hardship waiver and be immediately eligible to play next season.
Heron has two years of eligibility left but it is unlikely he sticks around for more than a year, as he should be a first round pick next year......
I'm sure both dad and son see the advantage of being a short distance away where his family and friends could attend home games and watch him set some records.

I always thought this was a longshot, so I am not surprised. I do think just the fact that Fairfield was in the discussion is a good thing and illustrates that we are working hard to connect with higher level players, a thought that sort of goes along with the guy we did sign in Alvarez. This is an example of trying to use that last open scholarship with someone special, hopefully portending someone else that we aren't aware of being acquired in the next couple of weeks. Either someone real good or keep the spot open rather than settle for "just anybody," that's the way I would go.
