Gardner-Webb, a team we beat last year in the Wright State tournament, won the Big South championship and will be in the NCAAs. They were fourth in the regular season in their league and beat 2nd seeded Radford on Radford's court to win today. It was the second road win in the Big South tourney for Gardner-Webb. Gardner-Webb was 14-18 last year, the only losing season in the six years that Tim Craft has been their head coach. It'll be Gardner-Webb's first ever trip to the NCAAs.
Watching many of these mid-major conference tournament finals, it is quite apparent how far we have fallen as a program in terms of talent, interest and relevance.
For all u CAA advocates, the championship is on CBS sports channel at 7pm. The very best of luck to our old MAAC friend Joe Mihalic as he tries to get Hofstra to the big dance.
Fairleigh Dickinson (20-13) beats St. Francis 85-76 in the 2019 NEC Campionship game on ESPN2 before 2,610 fans at St. Francis's 3,500 seat DeGol Arena. The MAAC Championship game with Iona and Monmouth had less fans (2,123) at the Times Union Center in Albany.
Definitely a better atmosphere then at the MAAC championship in Albany. I really like the championship being played on the home court of the higher seed. A reward for being consistent during the year. FDU the visitor in this game , played extremely well and is now dancing in the field of 68.

I agree, a much better atmosphere than the MAAC. And I also like the idea of the home court host for the championship game. Look for some more 'morgue like' scattered crowds in Atlantic City at future MAAC finals in the next three years, especially without the chance of a guaranteed large crowd that has always been a possibility if the home town Siena team could have made the ultimate game.
Anyway, great victory for FDU and coach Greg Herenda! This is the second time the Knights have won in the last four years, so that is quite an achievement I think.

Hats off to St. Mary's, too, for stunning Gonzaga and taking their NCAA fate out of the hands of the selection committee, who can't screw them again this year.

Hey Commish and MAAC Presidents, are you out of the cocoon yet?
Ensor has made one bad decision after another. He is completely out of touch and far past his prime. Definitely not the image of a conference on the move up. Sometimes you have to know it’s time to hang it up rather than wait for the axe.
Playing the championship game at the home court of the higher seed is like going to Iona every year for the championship game. It's bush. Weren't people opposed to playing at the TUC each year because it is Siena's home court?
