Wow. 😐 Siena has joined a platform which will maximize player, coach and team performance. One of the platform’s clients is the Oakland A’s. The A’s are 34-90 so far this season.
Is this an analytics/modeling platform that basically performs the insights provided by Jonah Hill (Peter Brand) in Moneyball?
Ahhhhh... you've triggered me. Moneyball was such a crock of mythology and PR spin.
FYI — Siena’s Killian Gribben averaged a double double (13pts, 10.7reb.) for Ireland in this summer’s FIBA U20 European Cup. Maciarello mentions in the Pete Janny YouTube podcast that he’s open to having Gribben and their 6’10” transfer from Sam Houston State on the court together at times if he wants to put a big lineup on the floor.
stag76 Gribben may very well be a good MAAC player... but if you look at those FIBA stats... his shooting was awful and his team's record was the same... finishing 16th out of 20... nestled between notable basketball powers Hungary and Luxembourg.
My guess... he accumulated some counting stats against pretty poor competition because he just happened to be on the floor enough minutes.
Technically not a MAAC hoops item but Grasso was a longtime assistant at Iona. Was the head coach at Bryant until he took a leave of absence two days before the accident.
Niagara apparently was unaware of a NCAA rule that a team can’t be in the same MTE twice within three years and has lost 2 OOC games unless they can find schools willing to play them.
In one of the unusual articles Pomeroy writes from time to time——he looked at all the first names of D1 players and among those first names which no player had before 2010*,Jalen is the most popular. However, the last two seasons the number of D1 players with Jalen as a first name has declined.
After a net loss of five Jalens last season, we’ve dropped another eight this season. It’s official: we will never again see as many Jalens as we saw during the 2022 season. kenpom.substack.com/p/we-have-reached-peak-jalen
I wonder how Jalen Leach feels about the declining popularity of his first name among D1 players.
*Pomeroy wrote that no D1 player had the first name Jalen prior to 2010 but he explains in a footnote that he actually means among rotational players in 2002-2010, which is the data he has. Obviously, Jalen Rose on Michigan’s Fab Five teams of the early ‘90’s had the first name Jalen.
Not sure how you pick Curtis over Smith for this list, when Curtis has Leach, Goodine, Fields, Floyd and maybe Davis ahead of him on the depth chart but with the injuries to Yetna and Seck —- Smith will likely, by default, be our center to start the season.

6’8” Elijah Taylor is stepping away from the QU program. The press release doesn’t state if it’s for the whole season or for an indefinite period of time. He transferred in from Notre Dame before the start of last season but didn’t play at all last year after a ACL injury.
Two former H/C get another shot at being the head man at their schools. Tom Peccora at Quinnipiac and Chris Casey , interim head coach at FF. I wish Tom success in Hamden but not against the stags. It would be great to see Chris be named H/C after having a successful 23/24 season under difficult circumstances.

I hope Chris has a lot of success and we have a great year. Realistically, I think he will need to have a very strong year for his title to move from Interim Head Coach to head coach. I hope it happens and we win 20 but that will be a tall order given what appears will be a slow start.
It may be difficult to truly gauge, but I will be curious to see what impact the "interim" title will have not only recruiting but also to those players that may be planning to enter the portal in the spring.
