Hurley's comment that the frequent flyer through the portal will have no connection to his many universities captures the true downside of the portal/NIL system. We on this board are fans of our actual or adopted college who have followed Fairfield sports since our first contact with the school. We regularly post about great games from the past and the players we will always remember. There are frequent sightings at our games of former players who have come back to a special place to watch those who carry on their legacy. This connection and the academic degree are what the student-athlete will treasure as they go through life. The four-year players who transfer after graduating from Fairfield will have this even if they transfer as grad students. I think a player like Caleb will have it because his final two years were spent here and he has his Fairfield degree. But those who are just passing through on their way to another college will never have this attachment and I think that is a loss they may not feel until long after their playing days are over. I would never advise a player to turn down a significant sum of money he and his family need, nor would I discourage a player from trying to play at the highest level and maybe be on a team that makes a long tournament run. But I would hope that those who are considering such a move think about what they are giving up before making their decision.
Another plug and play combo guard with 1 year left is David Coit of Northern Illinois. Listed at 5'11, he led NI at 20.8 PPG, 41% FG, 38% 3pt FG, and 89% FT (108-122). Coit is from NJ and played prep at Scotland Campus with Louis Bleechmore.
I’m glad Bleechmore is back. The first part of his season was more productive than the last. If he can improve his shooting he will be a very important part of next years team. Combine him with a healthy Rogan and the front court should be more productive than this year . Casey still needs to recruit a forward to bolster the stags weak rebounding front line.
Funny! I like it! Have to add brevity to this ridiculous situation that the NCAA created. I still don’t understand why the NCAA exists after all this? There are no rules anymore. They need to get out of the way or figure out a way to articulate their relevancy.
great stuff and having a leader like Louis back is key to next season. A good core group with Jasper, Peyton, Birima and the previously mentioned dynamic duo of Jack/Ryan, is a great start. Has anyone heard where Jalen/Brycen/JJJ are headed? Is there any chance that they could change their minds and return if they don’t find the right fit? Also, did Coach Casey offer them that option shen they decided to test the waters?
