MAAC goes 0 for 2 in today’s games with a morning tip-off. Iona lost 82-68 to High Point, who had previously lost a game at Queens 74-72. Siena loses to Central Michigan 70-56.
Both games were played in different MTEs in Florida. Iona is in the Gulf Coast Showcase and Siena is in the Sunshine Slam.
Rick Pitino is making sure his St. John’s team is battle-tested
Last season, St. John’s opened with buy games against Merrimack, Lafayette and Central Connecticut State. The year before, five of its first six contests were similar low-major opponents that were paid to play at Carnesecca Arena. This November? After the opener with Stony Brook, St. John’s has faced teams from the Big Ten (Michigan) and Pac-12 (Utah), the projected best team in the Atlantic 10 (Dayton) and a quality mid-major known for elite defense (North Texas). Clearly, the program is operating differently under Rick Pitino, and the schedule is one prime example. “We’re never going to open up with four teams we should beat,” Pitino said....
If you were wondering who Sacred Heart thought was going to attend their 11:30am game against Binghamton today, here’s your answer: elementary school students.

I think we get kids to a women’s game. For the men, a kids game (probably free) might cost us too much. We do have to to a better job of getting kids to games though.
Stags vs. Marist Thursday, February 8th @ 11:00 am – Leo D. Mahoney Arena
Kids’ Day Out: Students from local elementary schools will take over Leo D. Mahoney to cheer on the Stags! Admission is FREE for ALL local students! Halftime Performance: Halftime Dogs Flying Disc Show

I’m not advocating for weekday morning games for the guys. It’s actually rather sad that Sacred Heart will probably be favored over us when we play them this season, considering they’re bringing in elementary school students and starting a game at 11:30am in order to have a respectable size crowd at their game.

They might be favored this year because they are experienced and good, at least at our level of play. The Hearts win today by 14 points at the Pitt. But as far as having a respectable size crowd at the game when the Stags play them, if it's anything like two years ago when the two teams met at SHU, the contest could be a SELLOUT. Might have to buy tickets early for that matchup.

I watched the game last night and UNH has to very good players on their team a forward Daniels and a very quick point guard Robinson. Both will be tough matchups for FF. Nathan Davis the former Bucknell coach is the head coach.
