will such a event occur soon ? syd can talk about the slick six, expectations, and the price of beer. for a exact date, time, and place call your local representative.
After last season, I'd be surprised if Sydney wants to try to explain why he thought we'd be okay with Jenkins and Grennan as our experienced guards going into last season or why Monmouth and Siena with teams with less D1 experience than us finished ahead of us in the MAAC.
On the other hand, I'm guessing Coach Frager is very eager to talk about his upcoming season.
As a heads up, we will be hosting a get together at the Webster Bank Arena on Thursday, June 19th from 6pm-8pm and will love to see you there (please look out for the official invitation).

soap box time this fan is not a graduate of fairfield university, but has seen a few of the men's basketball games over the years. a program ( thats what ed cooley used to call it ) is made up of a group of fans who are passionate about the team and care about its history tradition, and future. i can not help but notice that the DOC'S ROUNDTABLE has been renamed a "get together " or " meet with the coach " " or supper with syd " - - - without tradition and passion a college basketball team, division 1 no less, will be faced with a diminishing fan base, and that usually follows with a lesser performance by the team and staff, which results in a spiral of poor results. why it can not be called DOC'S ROUNDTABLE, with a like venue, format, and juice is difficult to figure out. it could be the grass roots start of a energized program that has a large caring fan base. with all due respect to his efforts, 12 roy brown's can not replace tradition.

I don't understand why they need to do this at the WBA?. It is the most uncomfortable and impersonal venue for this type of event you could find. It was great at Fairchild, Gaelic Club or even the Bpt Holiday Inn where there have been events. As much as I'd like to be there, a part of me is glad I won't be able to make this date.
Stags Club is a wonderful venue when there is a game. It stinks when you just dragging people there to stand around uncomfortably just because your logo is on the wall.
My question is why is there so much opposition to "Doc's Roundtable"? The people who want to be there used to love the format and locations. Everybody also supported the name Doc's Roundtable. What a great tradition and recognition for a long time super Stags Fan.
And they'll scratch their heads and wonder why there wasn't a bigger turnout. Well I guess we're just used to it...a handful of people in an empty arena. Everyone will feel at home.

Bridgeport and Paulie, both well thought out and articulated points on a fading tradition that used to be a staple for real fans of Stag basketball. I, like both of you, certainly miss the settings (particularly the Irish Club or F. Wheeler), the confortable seating arrangements, the great buffets, and the friendly informal give and take between coaches and fans which serve to give a better feeling of ownership for the faithful to the program. And I also am sad that the spirit of one of its most loyal backers in Dr. Walter Pleban is being kind of left to just fade away. That said however, I am still glad they are doing this, and I certainly plan to be there. But again, I don't want to see the legacy of Doc's Roundtable be forgotten, and I would hope with a little friendly persuasion some changes could occur in future events, at least in the off season.
Was there an announcement that this wasn't going to be called Doc's Roundtable? I thought the intention was that it was going to called that. That naming tradition should continue as it Honors one of Fairfield's greatest fans. But it's more than just a name...... The whole idea of calling it a Roundtable represented an atmosphere of welcoming and discussion. It's my understanding is that the main issue is with not having tables with chairs. That setup allows for longer and more relaxed discussions.
I think a few emails or phone calls should get this done if it has not already been taken care of.

JS, good point. Is it possible that myself and others have maybe overeacted before the official anouncement has come out? But even if it is rightly called Doc's Roundtable I do think there is a real worry based on the venue being used, that the seating arrangement (which has a direct relationship to the feeling of welcome and discussion) will not duplicate what we have had in the past at other places. I guess you are right, a phone call or email might help in advance of the event.

Is this the 1st time that questions have to be submitted in advance at a Doc's roundtable? I've only been to one and at that one, each coach and Doris responded to whatever was asked that evening.
I can think of a few topics that Sydney would probably not wish to talk about --- but I was wondering if others here care one way or another about questions being screened.
Pre-submission of ?s reeks of "white-washing"/censorship/propaganda. I'd only expect "softball" questions & "coach speak" answers.
We've never asked really tough questions at these events (not really the place for them) - we've just debated them here (a proper place for them). There's no need for prescreening - we're generally a respectful group. If they wanted to prescreen, they could read this board to know what would be asked.
Pay $35.00 for hors d'oeuvres and a Cash Bar but your questions must be submitted in advance before a deadline....."Okay Coach, this question is from...." Not cool nor a way to create interest for the program and a great way to turn off fans. I doubt that Ed Cooley and Joe Frager would have wanted this type of pre-screened questions from season ticket holders, local Stag alumni and Stag fans nor would Roy Brown have suggested it. Maybe after the record setting (7-25)(4-16) season, I guess it is not surprising.
This is not the first time that questions for the coach were submitted beforehand. I remember this to be a regular practice during o'tooles time as head coach.
