This is not the first time that questions for the coach were submitted beforehand. I remember this to be a regular practice during o'tooles time as head coach.
This is a different time. This is also Fairfield University basketball. Everything should be ok to ask...
Screening questions? Preparing answers? Not good at all. Last time Sidney bolted the stage before the questioning started. This is not much better. Suck it up guys, and accept the heat. You've earned it.
There are always different viewpoints. To some, suibmitting questions beforehand may mean screening questions, To others it may mean giving people a chance to prepare a response. Everybody deserves a chance to prepare.
Submitting questions in advance is only appropriate with a large audience where not everyone has a chance to ask a question, and the screener selects representative questions. This is not such a forum. This just reeks, and IMO, is an insult to us, the loyal fans. We deseeve more. I suggest that we respond " no, I prefer to ask my questions live, at the event".

Even with the screening of questions, the way I look at it is that you can get out of it what you put into it. In other words even with some answers that may have been thought about in advance by Sydney, I would think that follow-up questions by members in the audience (asked in a respected manner) should be welcome. And of course one on one conversations before or after the scripted give and take with not only Sydney but the other coaches could take place I imagine. Believe it or not this has happened in the past with Sydney (NCAA draw party as an example) where he has been more than willing to discuss things. Yes of course he is going to be more reserved than others (such as Cooley), that's just his style. But he is a nice guy and well spoken and I'm sure would welcome to talk to anyone who wanted to be engaged. I look at this as a fun night to reunite with the coaches and Stag fans as we get set to think ahead to next season.
Nash, love the way you can put a positive spin on anything. You have a gift. However, this is a joke. This group needs to pull up the straps and kick butt in all phases. It would be nice to hear from them they aren't happy with the current state of the union and for them to take FULL ownership of it all...

I don't believe that FU ran the event then. My recollection was that we listed ?s here and JoeStag went through them. Direct ?s were allowed.
Questions were submitted in advance at Doc's Roundtable but ALL questions as I remember were listed on a piece of paper and all questions were addressed by the person to whom they were directed. I remember TOT running down the list at Fairchild Wheeler. Occasionally, he would hit a question that was broader than just his program and would toss the question over to Gene and it would be answered.
And yes, questions off the list were welcomed.
I sense this will not be the case in this instance, but lets be fair and see how this is handled.
Fans submitting a question that is not addressed and is an appropriate one, should make it known that this was the case. If legitimate questions are screened and omitted, anyone with any brains would be foolish to return to such an event.
But who knows, we may be surprised and very satisfied with the format.
Maybe this is all much ado about nothing but whether if it is for screening or censorship or answer preparation or just convenience, but from a PR standpoint, especially after the record setting (7-25) season, having the Stag alumni/fans who support the Fairfield University Basketball programs submit their questions by a deadline 3 days ahead of the event sounds suspicious and the perception is disconcerting. It is foolish and sounds bad regardless of the reasoning. Postgame press conferences and postgame interviews don't have questions submitted the day before the game and neither should a Q & A University event that is supposed to engage the fans.
Hopefully someone going next week will submit the question..."As fans, alumni and season ticket holders, why were our questions required to be submitted ahead of time and not allowed to be asked personally tonight"?

It could be a fun night as long as the focus is solely on the upcoming season. Probably not much fun to be found in looking back at the '13-'14 season.
I'm sure that it will be a nice night - as Bridgeport stated - we all need our "fix". I'm guessing that the new guy running this thing was hoping that by submitting ?s, SJ/GD/et all could get to all ?s instead of inevitably having some missed. I don't want to ? his intentions. That being said, we have a little bit of (maybe more that a little bit) a "crisis of confidence" in our program - coaches, AD, administration, team. Anything that they do (or league members do) is going to be magnified and scrutinized - last year was royally F-d up.

Direct questions were always allowed. Having a pre-list of Questions was a good thing. It was more like an Agenda, and it made sure it covered all topics. The follow-up questions are what made it a discussion.
