It seems to me the decision for Otchere is........ does he want to go to a bigger school and play about 15mpg. Or play at an Eastern Michigan (or Fairfield) and play 24mpg. I would certainly go after him, especially because Jay Young is a Big Man's coach. That could be our difference maker.
Otchere goes "smaller" and chooses Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the WAC.
The WAC isn't quite what it used to be. All of these schools were, at one time, part of the WAC.
Air Force, Arizona, Arizona State, BYU, Fresno State, Colorado State, UNLV, New Mexico, San Diego State, SMU, TCU, UTEP, Tulsa, Utah
Now its members are with two more joining this year ... Dixie State and Tarleton State.

Where are the parents when these kids make decisions like this? It is not as if they did not have the opportunity to go to a much better school. This is crazy!

Probably the smart thing to do (at least basketball-wise) for Wassef considering such things as the uncertainty of travel plus even the fact that the Blue Devils will be playing a shorter number of games than usual, and that's assuming there are no further problems as the season gets underway. Stay home, start making some money doing what you love to do with (BTW) a Fairfield degree in hand certainly seems like a good deal. So I hope it works out well for him!

Agree Nash, smart move. Has his degree, can make some money in uncertain times and can always go to grad school if he chooses.

Not sure on the move. It’s a trade off-a free year of grad school in exchange for what’s probably a small pro contract. The additional schooling provides a longer term benefits. If he was an all league type I might feel differently.

Ghost, under 'normal' times I'd agree with you. But not so much right now. Too much uncertainty IMO, not the least of which is the possibility of being stuck somewhere a long way from home with many hoops to clear just to be able to get home. Tough call however, that I agree.
Landon Taliaferro and Wassef Methnani will continue their basketball careers in the professional ranks as both former Fairfield University men's basketball student-athletes will play overseas. Taliaferro will join Amicale Steinsel in Luxembourg Total League, the top division in Luxembourg. Methnani will join US Monastir, the defending champion in the Tunisia Pro A League, the top division in Tunisia. Taliaferro and Methnani both graduated in the spring.
"We're extremely proud of Landon and Wassef for continuing their careers overseas," Head Coach Jay Young said. "Both represented Fairfield University and our program the right away on and off the floor. We wish them the best of luck in their professional careers and they will forever be Stags."
